New gun room/ reloading room coming!

Got my new house plans in about a week ago... been getting stuff ready to start building, getting bids right now... but whats even more exciting is i have my gun room/reloading room/ man cave built into the house!!!!! 11' 4"x 10' 10" is what it ended up being... aint the biggest, but, i will have my own place finally to set up everything! Going to do cheaper stained wood cabinets and butcher block wood counter tops... then some wall cabinets above the counters for more storage...

Aint crazy fancy, but its going to be way better than anything ive had before!

If I may make a suggestion. Instead of "butcher block" wood top, use a "butcher block" FORMICA top. resists solvents better and MUCH easier to clean>>> and it still LOOKS LIKE butcher block!

Good to know! Ill habe to look into it... as im buying gun room stuff cash and doing it all myself... aint gonna finance this stuff...

If you're going to have a big safe in the room unless it's going to sit against an outside wall I'd have a couple extra floor joists put in where the safe is going to sit. Honestly, it's not a bad idea even if it sits along an outside wall.

Enjoy your new space, my house has a small 16' X 32' basement and that's where all my loading stuff is.

EXACTLY!!! When I acted as builder for my new house a few years back...with an included reloading room/gun room over crawl space on the ground floor; even though the gun safe would be situated on an outside wall, we doubled ALL the floor joists for that room (glued together and nail-gunned). And, put down hardwood flooring over the floor plate...it's solid. You just can't imagine the amount of weight that will collect in that room! I build all the shelving/cabinetry myself and laid down kitchen counter laminate (butcher block) on all of my bench surfaces and bin shelving.

If you look on Craigslist, you can probably find some cheap cabinets that someone wants to get rid of.

Also, I bought a piece of Formica counter top at Menard's for $28. It has a small chip out of the back splash, but it works great for mounting to a bench or some cupboards.

Something else to think about. Bullets are HEAVY. I would suggest that you build shelves instead of cabinets for their storage. Build the shelves out of 2x8 or 10s. When I built my reloading room I just happened to have an old refrigerator and found it works perfect as a powder and primer storage unit. i put the primers in the freezer section and the powder in the other section. It is moisture resistant, highly fire resistant and in case of a fire if pressure was to build up it would just push the doors open and burn instead of blowing up. For my loading bench I used two refurbished 1 1/2" wide bathroom sink cabinets for my base. One on each end and took a sheet of 1/2" plywood and ripped it at 2" width and sandwiched the two pieces together to make a 1" thick 2' deep 8' long bench. I used 2x4 to make a border around the cabinets and be a front and back edge the whole length between the cabinets to screw the plywood top down to. Talk about solid.

My room is about that size, an while I wish it were bigger, I'm thankful to have my stuff in the house. Enjoy your new room.

thanks for info
