New Forum for Rimfire Shooters

I have a question about a .22 LR silhouette pistol I would like to have someone build for me.

1st...here's my idea...buy an Anschutz barreled action......with the 54.30 action......use the barrel on my 1907 Annie.......and have a gun smith build the pistol using the 54 action.
is it legal as it's a rifle to start with......
next any suggestions for a top notch gunsmith?

Started as a rifle, always a rifle. Get an Exemplar, they'll shoot as good as most high end rimfire rifles. They recently rereleased a few 14" barreled pistols. I think Champion Shooters Supply might have a couple in their showcase.

A seller on gunbroker has an auction going right now for an AMT Custom Shop Challenge Edition 10/22 Ruger 22LR. It's item number 601481763. He started the auction at .01 cent with 8 days left in the auction. Looks like a pretty nice rifle if you're looking for a 10/22 platform.

If you want a Semi Auto and know how to work on guns,1.Get a Marlin mod.60 or a 795 if you like clips do a little bedding and buy a KAT trigger and DIP trigger guard ( Arrowdodger at Rimfirecentral) try to get a pre Remington rifle. Mine is a great little rifle! But not for sale!2, Get a Ruger 10/22 and replace everything but the receiver and reassemble.3. Get a Magnum Research Magnumlite semi.22 a clone of the 10/22 that has all the good genes beautifully assembled and ready to go ( maybe my next rifle.
A bolt action,? With a little work and less money CZ can be nearly as good as a Anschuttz..2. A lot of money and guaranteed performance? Anschutz,do you want a Sporterifle or a competition rifle, hunting or casual competition...or serious competition.

Nearly as good ????????? as a Anschutz

I want to buy a 22 LR that is accurate. Can anyone tell me how accurate a 10/22T is???
I was in the same boat a year or so ago. I shot 22 on the HS rifle team back in the early 60's when we still had ranges in the schools. I picked up an older Remington and it did ok. Then I bought a Savage thumbhole MKII BTVS and it was quite accurate. I was able to shoot 1/2" groups at 70 yds but, after stumbling on a good buy on an older benchrest 22 I wasn't happy with the trigger. I bought a 1022 for $200, Kidd barrel and trigger and a Victor titan stock with rear anchor and it is a dream with the 4oz trigger and rivals my benchrest rifle for accuracy. The handlapped Walther barrel is probably the key. If you don't want a feather touch trigger, the Savage is hard to beat at a fraction of the cost and the accutrigger beats most others out there. If you go this route, you can always upgrade.

The price tag on most of the Anschutz .22 rimfires put many possible buyers on pause. I have a couple of CZ .22 Long Rifle calibers and a Savage Mark II. With a little bit of "tweaking", these rifles, and even a Ruger 77/22 will shoot some very descent groups for much less $$$, including a very nice optic.

The targets do tell the story! Accurate .22 rimfires are the most fun anyone should be allowed to have with their clothes still on.

Maybe I should GOOGLE "naked bench rest shooters", but I'm afraid I'll get a bunch of pictures of old wrinkled-up rich 'ol farts. with $$$$ equipment.

As a big bore silhouette competitor, I got bored, once you learn the ropes, it is another day at work, like being on a military team. So switched to small bore competition, which is a totally different level in difficulty and complexity. Everything is more, wind, light, temperature, guns, ammo, etc. In the 70s finding a true 22 LR match gun was a problem, as was finding true 22 LR match ammunition. I corresponded for several years with the editors of Precision Magazine's Rimfire Section, until end of publication, A crazy bunch of BR wizards in a workshop trying to make Model Ts into a Ferrari GT.

On a 22 Silhouette pistol, it is very hard to beat a TC Contender 10" bull barrel 22 with a trigger job for the money and accuracy. They are fully capable of out shooting most scoped rifles. Ammo, CCI Mini Mag. Shot one to Region II, 12 state, Unlimited Class Championship.

Autos will not shoot..... LMAO. You obviously have never run into a custom built stainless steel frame, Richard Mertz MOA made screw in barrel 10/22 pistol, with a RF match barrel, shot by a world champion. Interesting, how they will not shoot. Junk of any type will not shoot, a good gun, with a good shooter will clean you plow. Imagine 5 rounds in 3 seconds, aimed, gun never moves.

A ruger 10 22 will be competitive with some changes
1 Replace the receiver and trigger group with Volquartsen parts.
2 Replace barrel with 2 groove premium polished unit.
3 Replace stock with benchrest aftermarket.
4 Sort thru magazines for good feeding and easy eject from mag well.
5 Bevel rear of bolt to increase realibality.
Just buy a Bergara BXR and you won't have to do any of that, that's why I sold all my 1022's while nice rifles,to make them shoot you have to drop more $,the Bergara will shoot with good optics, 0.5 ,a hair less at 50 yards.

Don't waste your time and money, because it takes as much or more than you paid for the rifle to get one to shoot half way decent.
Get a Bergara and be one and done, with a good optic 1/2 at 50 yards is attainable ,match ammo Eley Tenex,Eley match black box, also with the flat nose bullet design a great hunting round, will drop coyotes in their tracks all day with head shots at 100+ YARDS.A real decent trigger on the Bergara also at 2.5 is mine.
