New Feller Here From VA

I shot a good bit in your neck of the woods, at the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest range.

It was off 460.

I have some crazy safety stories from that place, I won't go back.

Not much had changed 20 years after your experience.

On their sight-in range, people just start walking down range whenever they want. You'll be looking through your scope and someone enters your FOV. You can try and convince them it's a really bad idea, but they'll do it 5 minutes later.

Welcome DHall_37! A tremendous plethora of knowledge here and fantastic ladies and gentlemen make up this awesome site. Only downside is you are going to go broke, we / they have no issues spending your money. lol lol Again welcome glad to have you.

Welcome, if you just use the search engine and read archived posts, you’ll gain a wealth of knowledge on accuracy and reloading. Members are quite willing to offer advice and encouragement. Just give them enough data, in your post, in order for them to make an accurate assessment. Even though I started competitive shooting and hunting at age 14, I didn’t start loading until 5 years ago. I no longer compete but I have learned much just by reading posts on this site.

Howdy, I’ve been looking at the forum for a while but just decided to make an account. Reason I joined was the name “Accurate Shooter”- and I like accurate shootin!

I’m into mostly older guns like Mausers, Enfields and Carcanos, I wish to have a massive military collection some day. I also do reloading, I just started, but I’ve been gathering stuff for over a year and in the mean time studying the subject.

I’m pretty young as for someone who reloads these days, I’m only 18, I’m in the VA National Guard. I like working with tools, I took 3 years of Machine Shop and 1 year of woodworking in High School, going to further my education in the Mechatronics Field.

My flagship piece has to be my Remington Model 81 in 300 Savage.

I’m eager to meet new folks on here and ask about reloading and shooting old guns, if y’all got any questions for me I’d be happy to answer.

Welcome..you'll enjoy this community

Welcome, welcome. You'll get a lot of useful information if you ask, and probably a good story while your learning.
Old guns are near and dear to me as well, so welcome to that addiction :rolleyes:
Some of these gentleman will be able to give you information on loading jacketed for these old military monsters, but all of ours in my house only ever get cast lead. 1903's are a great shooting rifle, but I have a tack driving Czech Mauser as well.

Again, welcome aboard and keep your powder dry!

Derrick, I live in Roanoke and there is a IWL here in Roanoke and we have a nice range, covered bench rests and target butts out to 300 yards...if you need any help with the reloading, just PM me...I am only about 7 miles from Salem, close to Oak Grove Mall.

Derrick -

Howdy !

The National Guard provides great " ready reserves " for the US Army and US Air Force.
I myself did 37yr w/ the 122 Fighter Wing Indiana Air National Guard; as an Aircraft Mechanic
( various aircraft " systems " ).

Used all of one " Summer Camp " pay to buy my first bolt action varmint rifle..... a custom .22-250
heavy barrel built in P.O. Ackley's shop. He used an Interarms Mark X action ( M-98 ), 24" 1-14 Douglas chrom moly; and a beautiful American Walnut stock ( I believe ) from Bishop. Used my neck full time job pay to buy a 2.5 - 8 Vari-X III Leupold to put on the gun. Took me a while to bounce back from those cash outlays, but they were well worth it !

I got right into handloading by age 20, and did my first wildcat design @ age 21. Still at it today ( age 67 ).

Nice to hear from you !

With regards,
