New E-Class question

Just read about the new NRA e-class my question who makes an optic to clearly see and shoot 1000 yards for 4-500 dollars retail?????????
To bad this is an April fool's joke! I for one would love to see a class like that so a poor man can afford to have some fun competing. I can't afford the high prices BR shooting costs but would love to do it on a smaller cheaper scale that a lot of people could afford.

Joking aside - we have a lot of members that would qualify for E-Class. I enjoy sharing the range with "casual" shooters. Occasionally, I convert one to take F Class more seriously - often by spotting talent or determination and mentoring them - put them with your gun and ammo - a good tool is an accurate 6 BR, to demonstrate that a loudnboomer is not necessary to achieve good scores at the short, 5/600 yds.

Yes, the "E-Class" story is a Fools Day offering, but it's possible to have a very accurate rifle for under $2000.00 with optics.

I started this website as 6mmBR.com, because I converted a $425 factory Savage with a PacNor PreFit 6mmBR barrel and the thing shot an honest quarter-MOA and set a range record at 600 yards at my local club. I put the action in a laminated stock I bought for $200. The Leupold 8-25×56mm LRT scope cost about $900.00 (20 years ago). I added an after-market trigger. Apart from the scope, I had about $820.00 in the rifle, but that was with a free barrel.

Prices from 2002-2004
Savage Rifle: $425
PacNor 6mmBR Pre-Fit Barrel (Gift from PacNor): FREE
Laminated Stock $220
Trigger: $150
Burris Signature Rings: $25
Total $820.00 without scope, $1720 with Leupold scope.

Oh yeah the rear bag was a gift, and I think I paid about $65 for that front rest...

Paul,
Love that stock. Who made it and is it still available?

Um, will the powder kernel uniforming drill be legal in E class? Seriously now, you don’t have to spend a fortune to shoot F Class. If you want to have fun and challenge yourself to improve, run what you brung. I started with a stock Remington action and trigger, Brux barrel and stock, $200 scope. And I wasn’t the lowest scores! As I improved, I opted to also improve my gear. I started in 2010, and in 2015 made long range state champion.

All you really need is a 12x scope. At least that’s what an X navy Seal told me at the gun range.
This is perfect and the real deal! o_O Rings included!
This is the one I'm getting.

- 16 power optic with illuminated reticle
- Dual lasers (red and green)
- Red dot sight
- Flashlight
- Mount

All in one package and just $110

Perfect for when the lights go out at the 1000 yard line :D

And look at the reticle, isn't she a beaut

What a beautiful place to shoot

I enjoyed the joke but I was disappointed that it was one. The fact is that Fclass has become an arms race where the winners are those with deep pockets shooting with $10k rigs and there's only a couple of points separating the top 10. That line in the rules proclaiming that F class is not bench rest is BS. Fopen is pure belly bench rest. I may end up shooting with a sling so I can get back to a world where the shooter matters more than the gun. But with my bad back I would like to see a class with a bipod and the optics the sling shooters use.

You can’t miss with such an amazing scope! As soon as you win a match, then everybody will want one.

It was in the late nineties that I built my first "F" class rifle, after building a couple of 6BR's for some old friends. My first F-class match was fired with one of those 6BR's, to test it. I just shot the first day but was sitting comfortably in first at the end of the day. The rifle was a Model 70 Winchester with a Shilen barrel and was chambered for the original 6mm BR Remington. The scope was a 24x Redfield. The cost was way south of a thousand dollars.
My own rifle was also built on a Winchester action. It was a 1965 model I picked up at a gunshow for 180 bucks. I put a Shilen barrel on it and chambered it for the 6.5x55. It sat in a MacMillan Model 70 Marksman stock. I topped it off with a 6-24 Weaver scope. I had to make a mount with elevation adjustment, since the scope was limited in adjustment range. I won a lot more than I lost with this one too. I had about 850 bucks into it.
I re-barreled this rifle to 308 a few years back. I mostly shoot it with a sling but will occasionally shoot it from a rest. Last time I shot it, it put ten into an inch and an eighth at 300m.
I have never taken things real seriously. So it is that I have competed with a 303 British on a P14 action (somewhat modified). I came in second with this at a pretty hotly contested 300m ISSF match. I beat a whole bunch of 6BR's from various custom makers. I like fooling around with slightly oddball guns. Sometimes with surprising success. I shoot for fun. Having to pay 4000 dollars for a scope isn't fun. Having to spend a thousand bucks for a rest isn't fun. Shooting reasonably well with some cobbled up rifle and a cheap scope, over a bag of sawdust. that's fun. WH

You know, it might be fun to do an annual fun match that has a total build cost cap set at something rather low like $750 to encourage creativity (in a safe manner). Kind of like the 24 Hours of Lemons car race that has a $500 limit including purchasing the car.

Mercedes has a E class for the budget minded folks, this is in line with the new format.
Then they have the S class, add in the AMG package and now you'd have a full blown Fclass rig for those discerning shooters.
