The rifle weighs 17 1/2 pounds. I sent all the parts to Chris in September of 08 and I received the completed rifle in December of 08.

Nice looking set-up, I read your post on your shooting. Sounds great. I almost had Lsr do a 6mm br rifle about the same time you did. I ended up going with Sharp Shooters Supply for my build for economic reasons, and should be getting my rifle at the end of the month. Do you live near Kansas City?

No, I live in Commifornia also known as California. What Action, Barrel, Trigger, etc. did you go with?

I thought you might live near hear, I live 30 miles from LSR. I went with what Fred @ SSS usually works with....Savage target action, timed and trued), Heavy LR laminate stock, Large shank 27 inch Douglas match barrel. Not a true custom, but for the money I hope it will be a shooter. Fred is suppose to be the one of most knowledgeable Savage guys around. I'll let you know how it works out.

I am fortunate to have a 7mm WSM built by chris and it is a great shooter.

I was wondering how/why you decided on the barrel length you used?

Klong, I went with a 28" barrel for two reasons, extra velocity and barrel set back once I burn the throat out. I have a long way to go before I burn the throat out, I only have 100 rounds through my barrel. The 28" barrel will allow me to set the barrel back twice and still give me a 26" barrel when I do the 2nd set back.

6BR,

I'm looking at putting together a dummy cartridge to drop off at Hart Barrels along with my action. I drive by the place a couple times a month - Real nice people.

I'll be getting a 1:8 twist. I have a question on your Cart. overall length,2.330'). I just put one together with Lapua Brass and 105g A-Max's and after checking everything out it looks like my COAL at 2.381 sets the start of the boat tail right at the shoulder. If I jam it in another .051 the start of the BT will be certainly past the neck/shoulder. I would like to check out the 87g V-Max's as well. I'm afraid where I'm at now to seat the 87g V's so the COAL is good the back of the 87g V will be way far up in the neck.

So what's worse? Pushing the 105's in or seating the 87's shallow in the neck? I have a Forester FLSD .268 neck. I'll go with a no turn neck chamber also, probably 0.271').

Thanks for the help,
JLM

I'm waiting on my 7 wsm from LSR as well. I also went with the 28' barrel in order to optimize some of the slower burning powders with the 162 A-Max As soon as Glenn at Seekins Precision gets done with the new WSM detatchable magazines and bottom metal in March, I should be in business sometime in April

JLM, I don't know what would be worse or better. I know my OAL with the 87grn V-Max is 2.250. I have my 105 A-max's jumped .010. My rifle really likes them jumped. She is shooting in the .0's and .1's with 30.3grn Varget, CCI 450 and a 105grn A-Max. The velocity with this load is 2880fps, I could push it faster, however, this load is so accurate, I don't want to mess with it. Here is the new picture of my rifle with the new Tooley MBR stock

6BR, I've been stalking that rig of yours before. That's a real nice setup. Wow if the front of the 87's shape is close to the 105's you're really jumping the 87's. I think I'll give Jim Hart a call and see what advice he's willing to give.

Thanks for the help,
Jeff

JLM, the 87grn V-Max are jumped about .010 too. My rifle is shooting the 87grn V-Max's in the .2's, not bad for that bullet. Most 6BR with a 1-8 twist barrels, don't like the 87grn V-Max's. I jammed the 87grn VMaxs at first but it did not like them. Once I jumped them, they shot really well. I decided to use the 105grn A-Max's because they are so darn accurate and they are awesome when shooting past 500 yards. Plus, the 105grn A-Max's expand really well for a Match type VLD bullet.

When I loaded the 105grn Scenars or 105grn Bergers, my rifle liked them jammed. However, the A-Max and V-Max liked to be jumped. It's amazing how things work.

Topwater225, you are in for a real treat. If it shoots even close to mine you will have the bench rest guys looking to see what you are shooting. Ken

6bbBR,

I did some more figurin' last nite and messing around with 105's and brass and the 2.33' Carrtridge length is mighty fine it puts the start of the boat tail right at the start of the neck. I thought is was going to be deep into the shoulder but it's not. I'm going to go with it and like you might go with a .010' lead then I can move out to the lands if necessary.

It's hard to believe looking at that short stumpy 6BR cartridge it does what you hear it's capable of. Now I need to get my butt up to NY and drop everything off at Hart Barrels.

I just got a Wilson Micrometer top bullet seater and it's real nice for working with seating depths. You can easily and accurately sneak up on your seating depths. For those that haven't handled a Wilson Micro seater they're very nice and accurat...small tolerances throughout. Although from what I can tell the machined rings around the die don't seem to match up with the graduated collet. But once you have a starting point you'll be looking at the collet anyhow - for sneaking that is.

Thanks for the help,
Jeff

JLM, I am glad it worked out for you. Like I said, I am betting your barrel will like this load and OAL too. I have been absolutely amazed with how efficient and accurate the 6BR cartridge is. I am looking forward to hearing about your project. You'll like the 105grn A-Max's for varminting, they open up real nice on long range varmints and short range varmints too. If you need anymore help, feel free to ask.

6BR,

I'll get up to Hart the week after next to start the 16 - 18 week wait for the barrel action and gunsmith work. I'm having a tough time deciding on a stock. I'm pretty sure I'll get a Stockade stock,I have a Savage Target Action). Sometimes I just think the heck with it and get a McMillan. We'll see. I'm also going to put a Nikon Monarch Tactical Scope. It's a budget build for sure. I'm totally stoked for it. Every gun I have is a factory rifle. This is my first semi custom.

Take care,
Jeff
