new cowboy hat time!

Need another Stetson (or similar) , advice from a true "outdoor" not a dance floor hat!!! hat man! not talking baseball caps here!

i bought a 6x or 8X Stetson felt in Cody @ 2006 and i will be heading through Laramie, Wy for a pronghorn hunt and need another one.

no china or knock off wanted! i love how they keep the rain, sleet and snow and sun off the face and neck.

prefer a real deal ma and pa shop over a big box store, search is pulling up Martindales western store.
need a place to try it on and move on.
what beaver x , material etc. for fall, winter ,waterproof and long lasting. mine has seen its better days!
16x
32x?

If I were looking to buy the end all be all hat, I'd take a trip to Standard Hat Works in Waco Texas and have them make me one in person.

I bought my last Stetson at Wild Bill's in Dallas. They will give you a free beer while they fit your hat.

Both are a bit out of the way of your planned route.

I wear one ever day. My vote for a good felt hat is one from American Hat Company. Something like a 20x beaver is plenty good for everyday wear. I wouldn’t go above one of their 40X beaver blends, just wasting money after that point. Stay away from the boutique guys that advertise in those cowboy and Indian slick page magazines, just paying a lot for a sales pitch.

thx, info i was after, i think mine was 8x or so and not bad at all. 16x -20x should do fine. I am certainly not looking for a $1k plus hat,I am sure $250-$500 will do.

we may be able to swing through Cheyanne.
i really need the cranium measured again, been swelling over the years lol.

not on your route but easy to do business with. D Bar J hats

I would think Cheyenne would have some Western Wear stores that locals shop at that would treat you right.

In the 80's when I was still hitting the rodeos, I had a custom 10X silver belly made at Roberts Hat Shop in Abilene Tx. The store has long since closed but I wore that hat for years. Made rodeos in it, drank a lot of beer in it, worked and played in it. When I retired the hat, it had girls phone numbers written all over the bottom of the brim and inside. I was married at least 10 years before my wife removed it from a hat rack where it had hung for a decade. It disappeared shortly after. Still looking for it.

I guess your going to use this as an everyday type of hat. I have two hats, one by the back door and the other in the truck. I don't wear a hat of any type every day, but the two I wear are exactly the same. I tried felt hats, beaver, etc., years ago, but always find them too hot. If your out on a PD hunt, a felt hat can get your head cookin pretty fast.

I switched over to Tilley. I have 2 of the wide brim Tilley hats and they do well keeping off the sun and rain off my glasses. They do a really good job in the rain. If it's raining hard, I put a hat cover on it. Also, it will not blow off your head when it's windy. They're also easy to pack if you need to. One of my Tilley hats has been all over Europe.

Tilley hats, stylish, no. Functional yes.

i'll certainly let you know if i find it!

Baseball hats are the thing around here for some stupid reason.i played baseball many years as a kid and got my share of sopping wet head, sun burnt neck and cherry red ear tips.

i have summer and fair weather cover ,covered.

mybfelt been through many ,many ,many rain showers, snow, sleet freezingbrain and snow showers and seriously out of shape and nobody i can find around here to fix it up.
they do grow on you over the years, and yes, if they could talk like the dog. sooo many stories could be told.

Got to thinking about the hat. The one responsible for it's disappearance was the very last one to write her phone number on it.

It’s fun to think about fall for sure!
I don’t know of any discount codes or sales. The best thing is just to call them and visit with them about what you want. They have lots more than just the few shown on their website. 4 1/4 inch brim is very popular now and they will suggest a crown height that will fit you best. From looking at your pics looks like you may want a pretty flat brim shape, and you may want to tell them you use it to shoot scoped rifles with. Long oval shaped hats are most common, unless if you have real circular head then a round oval might be best.

no coupon codes or discount games usually mean in my book they are charging a fair price for their product with the mark up they need.
i jist signed up on their site, Ill have to give them a call.

picking out a new hat is alot like a new rifle build! lol
