new cowboy hat time!

You didn't list your iternary but since you appear to be located in PA I would suggest that you shop on your way to Lander. Lots of towns in the west have "western wear" stores and quite a few have hatmakers in them also, the custom hatmakers usually have some pre-made or that for some reason the customer who ordered them did not like the hat and quite often these can be purchased a significant discount.
It has been quite a few years since I have been through Cheyenne but on the main drag near the old railway station there were a couple of large western stores across catty-corner from each other and both always had a big selection of hats and boots.
Don't do a little googling and see what hatmakers/western stores pop up along your route.

drover

p.s. - I would think that there is a good chance of finding something in Lander.

I just thought about it if you do order one somewhere, search for a pic of the exact hat style you want and text it to the salesman phone. Might be more successful on getting exactly what you want.

wife and i all over it.

what do you do in winter when the temp drops to single digits or high wind to keep the ears warmer?
fold down flaps?
wouldn't that change the fit folding up/down
i usually deal with it or wear a narrow headband .

If I were looking to buy the end all be all hat, I'd take a trip to Standard Hat Works in Waco Texas and have them make me one in person.

I bought my last Stetson at Wild Bill's in Dallas. They will give you a free beer while they fit your hat.

Both are a bit out of the way of your planned route.
I LOVE Wild Bill's in Dallas. Beer and bargains

A salesman moved to Texas and bought a cowboy hat so he could fit in and look the part. He included the hat receipt when he turned in his expense report. His boss looks at the expense report and says "sorry, we aren't paying for your hat". Nice try....
Next month he turns it in again and again the boss man refuses to reimburse for the hat.
Not being one to give up easily, he turned in his expense report the next month along with about 20 pages of various receipts. He stands there while his boss starts looking through the receipts...obviously only caring about that danged hat.
After a few minutes the salesman tells his boss "the cowboy hat is in there...you just gotta find it!"

I believe the factory is still in Garland, Texas. Used to have a few clients that worked there. Let me check this afternoon and I will post if I can still get the employee discount.

He Double you know what Butch!
i would love that! im new into retirement and it sure would help alot seeing these prices.
i just started eyeballing Resistol, they appear to be tied with Stetson?
my hat has a stetson serial # , inspected by,tucked under sweatband. barely readable but i believe i can get it read right?

I sent you a PM about a custom hat factory in Decatur, Tx. My brother retired as the Economic Development Director and said his last 3 came from his friend's,https://biggarhatstore.com/, hat factory. His website is pretty good showing building a hat and other info. He does custom one off and has on the shelf hats also.
