I,m in the market for a new chronograph the only one i have ever used is the oehler p 35 it was a lot of trouble to set up im interested in the new ced mil 2 or a prochrono from comp electronics i have heard of to many problems with the shooting chorny,s,and the one neco is selling is more than i want to spend any help guys.

Brassrat,
I hope you get some good responses to your question, I too am in the market for a new crono. The only one that I have ever used is a Crony. In the ten years that I have owned the unit, I have not been able to understand from the directions how to zero it out.

I have been using the older model CED Millennium Chronograph and the only negative that I can report is that with the standard screens it has been fussy at times with variable sky conditions. Patchy rapidly moving clouds and some low sun angles are the usual problems. The IR screen option solves that put does mean more stuff to haul and set up.

Another user I see occasionally has the new CED M2 and seems to have less problems with the standard screens but uses the IR screens in low sun angle conditions.

I bought the CED Millenium because of the IR screen option. I do most of my load development in the evening after work; that wouldn't work without the IR screens. I actually block ambient light to maintain a consistent condition for the sensors. I've used an Oehler and the CED; the CED screens were much less fussy. The new version of CED's screens are supposed to be even better. I shoot molyed .22 caliber bullets at high velocity on ranges that are dark,grass-covered) or light, bare earth) with no problems. The IR screens run on batteries as well as AC, so they can be used anywhere.

If you're interested in the CED, I'd recommend buying it from Jim Ristow at Recreational Software; he's great to deal with and he usually has a deal to throw in a few extra bits at no charge. While you're there, check out the Shooting Lab software - I think it's the best ballistics/reloading package available.

Bassrat.. I'm not knocking any of the other units. However, after having a PAC, I got a Pro Chrono Digital unit and really like it. This unit offers quick and easy set up and take down. I have never had it fail to registar a shot. There are no cords to string out - take down, ect... It has everything I want and is fast and easy. I mount mine on a tri-pod. The only draw back I can find is if you happen to shoot it, it is gone... They sell for around $100... FWIW...

I started with a PACT which was fussy with regard to lighting. Overcast days were OK but with sun, the shadows of the diffuser support screens or roof of the building would make the thing unuseable. I then got a Millennium CED with was not as fussy but then decided to get the IR accessory. WOW, what a deal. I just picked up the new CED M2 but still use the original IR screens. Best deal in town. Accurate, consistent and I don't worry about clouds passing overhead, shadows. I even use it at an indoor range. The thing consistently picks up .22 bullets and .177 pellets. In fact, I'll be bringing it to the range this weekend for load development, again or still  )

I like the CED's. My $.02
