Which chronograph for Christmas??

FireMedic

I'm in the market for a new chronograph. My wife finally let me start picking out my own gifts.:) If you could pick one chrono out to purchase under $250 what would it be?? Thanks

I have a Chrony Master F-1 and it is great for its size and convience in packing it to the range and using it. I tested it behind a Oehler and it was spot on with the Oehler. However, it does not print, do computations, or interface with my PC.

So.................I was looking and researching when the PACT Professional XP was featured last week in the daily bulletin on this Forum.

Here is the link and shows the "Christmas Special" price and features: http://www.pact.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=67

My wife has ordered it for me for Christmas. Shooting wives are great and to be valued on above even a fine hunting dog or a old good Scotch, well maybe not the dog).

I am very interested in hearing some more input on chronographs here . I am going to treat myself to one for Christmas.

It will be a PACT or a CED. Which one would you buy and why?

Anyone interested,i know where a 35 Oehler is for sale, not the 35p)It's not mine, but i looked it over, and it's in very good condition, has case, stands, mounting rail,3 screens with cables.Seller wants $215 plus S&I, but anyone interested can call this seller at,830)367-2848 his name is Duane Wheeler, may have sold it,but i looked at it two weeks ago?

FYI,

I spoke to Ronin Colman, CEO of PACT today, and PACT hopes to introduce an upgraded infrared unit sometime early next year. It will have an aspheric lens over the IR emitter for less diffusion and they believe they can achieve much longer battery life.,IRs use a lot of "juice")

Even as it is, to me having the printer may give the PACT an edge over the CED -- I like to staple the tape right to the target for future reference.

Travelor:

What they are working on is upgrading the IR emitters. As far as I could understand the rest of the unit is the same.

Look at these reviews of the Pact from Cabela's.

Jacob,

One of the Cabelas posters sounded like he didn't know how to even put the batteries in. In any case, there is a larger sample of opinions at the Midway site.

Here are the Midway reviews. Over 50% are 5-star. There does seem to be agreement that the manual sucks, but then that applies to ever chrono I've ever worked with. I've had to create my own "CHEAT SHEET" with shooting chronys and CEDs to remember even basic functions like clearing a string.

I've told the chrono makers to change the interface. Give me a big red button for "scrub last shot". And have a simple click knob, 1-2-3-4-5 that lets you set the string and KNOW what string you're on.

I like the packaging of the Chrony's but I've seen to maney problems with "iffy light" and might only really works reliably in the morning on hazy days.

I've worked with the PVM-21, and it records great, but I still wish it had a printer. Not every has or wants a laptop to carry around your data in. You can write down stuff in a notebook, which I do), but that's pretty inefficient and prone to error. I've had raindrops wipe out my entries one day...

Hi Medic,

I have the Pro Chronograph,www.competitionelectronics.com).

I previously owned a Chrony, and destroyed it by gunfire, not the only one by all accounts). So, after looking around for a bit, my mate Richard who works at the best gunshop here in Auckland NZ, put me onto the Pro Chronograph.

It was only another $50.00 more than my Chrony, but I think it is a better unit. It has a much bigger shooting sensitivity than the Chrony. I had it sitting about 1 metre under the muzzle of my .280 and it was still recording each shot. Plus it has the ability to connect to a printer as well as a remote.

Anyway, just my 2 cents,

Michael.
