NEW but LAST **UPDATE** on New Bartlein "Hard Steel" barrel.

NO problem with the 3rd degree! LOL!! Yes it is a 7mm Sherman Short Mag. I use either the Berger 180 Hybrid or Berger 180 VLD (depending on availability).. With the 180 VLDs, I use 56.5grs of RL-23 and CCI-BR2 primers for a velocity of 2895-2905. With the 180 Hybrids, I use 56.2grs of RL-23 with the BR-2s for a velocity of 2905-2915 (in that vicinity).. It is used in F-Open competition where L-O-N-G shot strings fired quickly are the norm. The barrel is 32" long. I am figuring that with the savings of NOT having to pay for a second chamber job on a new barrel nor burning up our "hard to find" components breaking in a new barrel and finding a GREAT load will pay dividends for spending more money for the hard steel barrel.
Awesome, thanks.
My 7wsm loves RL23. It's on the cooler burning side of Alliant powders.

I can get one ordered up for ya if you want.

I'll do what I can for you on the delivery time...but yes the gun industry is upside down and it's effecting us as well.

I know what the short range BR guys are all about accuracy wise etc....long range guys are a little different.

We made Mark two CFW barrels for testing on his BR guns in 6PPC of course last year. Took both guns out....he shot left over ammo he had sitting around. So no tuning, no break in etc...targets attached. These are also in the new material.

Later, Frank
Wait!!!
You make carbon fibre wrapped barrels also??

SCHWEET!!!

;)

****UPDATE**** on this "Hard Steel" barrel from Bartlein.. I just shot a match this weekend. I finished cleaning the barrel "down to the bone".. I took out my trusty-rusty borescope to see how the barrel is faring after 950 rounds down the bore. There is just the mildest of firecracking in the barrel AND only in the grooves>>>>none on the lands! If this is indicative of the "lasting value" of the rifling, it is on track for a minimum of 2000rounds and probably at or above 2500! For a magnum cartridge, this is awesome in my opinion. GREAT job Bartlein!

Any chance of a year end update? This has been a great thread, and I think many of us are very interested in your updates on how that barrel has lasted.

I just sent my 6.5 prc back to my smith for a rebarrel. Current barrel was a bartlein mtu mod400 at 28”. Tube has exactly 876 down and it’s gone. I am just tossing it up as a fluke deal. Went from shooting 3075 with Berger 156s and rl26 to barely over 2930 with same load. Gun was a solid 1/4 and opened up to 1/3-3/4. Had extreme cracking and it wasn’t ever ram extremly hard. Had a few 10 shot strings that were shot pretty quickly but nothing crazy. I have two other prcs with the same barrel and they both have near 1000 down the tube and like you stated barely have ANY cracking. I have noticed as well it’s extremly easy to clean compared to regular 416 steel
