New build- Rem MBR 6 br

This rifle was originally built by Dan Dowling with a 262' necked, 1-8', 27' Hart on it. The action has been trued, lug is pinned, Jewel 2oz trigger, bushed firing pin, McMillan MBR.

I took my rifle to the Sportsman in South Carolina and had Ray Silva re-barrel it with my no-turn 6BR reamer, and install a Harrell muzzle brake. The barrel is a Brux, 1-8', HV, and it was finished at 31'. For those of you who do not know Ray built rifles before moving to North Carolina, and he worked with Tooley for about 5 years building rifles. I hope I did not finish this thing too long, but I am going to see how it works out.

So far I am running about 2850fps with Varget, and Berger 108 BT's match bullets. The rifle only has 65 rounds through it so far, and I am still forming my brass. I have not shot a 2oz trigger or tried shooting free recoil since the early 90's so I am still trying to get used to it. I need to start tuning my loads and seeing what this rifle will do. The groups in the picture are fire forming and include foulers as I have been cleaning and shooting.

Great looking rifle there!! I love those MBR stocks. And looks like you got you a Sightron S3 too. your ready to go shootin!!!

What do you think of that Brux barrel? Im thinking of ordering one myself.

Good luck,

Jerid

Thanks!

So far I am very pleased! My smith said that the barrel cut really nice like it had been cryo'd

Not much actual load development other then blwoing brass out, cleaning and shooting and I shot a few really nice groups considering! I can wait to do the second firing on my dimmension brass and see what it'll do!

Why a muzzle break on a 6mmBR? They kick just about like a 223 without it and makes the gun illegal to shoot in NRA competitions.

Just a question due to curiosity.

Good to hear that about the barrel..

Try yoe some RE-15, I get better chrono numbers with it verses varget. they shoot about the same velocity. But the varget has a real high SD in my rifle though.

have fun,

Jerid

The muzzle brake screws off...yes you are right it does not kick...at the time I thought it would look good on the rifle...if someone wanted to shoot g-hogs at dusk it would lessen the flash

I have a 6BR in light gun that I use specifically for 1K benchrest.

I've been thinking about a muzzle break for reducing bag disturbance, which will improve tracking. At Williamsport you need to rip your record shots down there as fast as possible (The fastest shooters in each relay are often the winners of each relay) - the better the gun tracks, the faster you can shoot.

There are a lot of things I need to improve on that can't be fixed with a rest, muzzle break, or any other hardware, but any mechanical device to help me improve will certainly be considered. That includes placing a muzzle break on the little 6BR!
