New build for the coyotes

I normally don't post builds that i do but thought what the heck :) This is 1 build i just got back of a couple i am doing. I built it short for the woods, balances out very nice and will be a pleasure to tote around. I have not got optics yet as i am up in the air on what to put on it. I have a buddy that swears by the aimpoint micro-T with the dot at 2moa but i just am not sure if i want to use a 1x power optic or go with something like a 1-6 power.

Dan give us a break down and you used a real quality upper and lower. It looks spectacular to me living in the peoples republic of new York.

John,
The parts i used for the build are:

Seekins billet IRMT-3 upper
Seekins billet lower
Seekins SP3R V3 mod rail 15" in length
Seekins muzzle break
Noveske 16" Recon stainless barrel 7 twist ( these are Pac-Nor blanks )
Geissele SSA-E trigger
PWS buffer tube mil-spec
Spikes tactical ST-T2 heavy buffer with tungsten powder
can't remember the buffer spring i used
Magpul ACS mil-spec stock
Rock River lower parts kit
Fail Zero nickel boron coated bolt carrier

The rifle was cerokoted in a mixture of burnt bronze and HK black. It toned the color down and the pictures with the color of the pillow in the back ground and flash of the camera make it look lighter than it is. Like the color very well as i am not a big fan of the straight color of burnt bronze. The PWS buffer tube is the best out their and has the flush cups that are on each side. It is machined as 1 piece from aluminum. The rail attaches to the upper as the upper is machined only for this rail that i used. You would need their standard upper if you should choose to use different style rails as no other rail will work for it. The upper rail is not that large in circumference and fits my hand very well. The bottom is flat and will shoot nice from a bag or resting on objects in the field.

Your build looks awesome. How does it shoot? Do you like that trigger? I have been thinking about one for in my rifle.

I am trying to figure out what optic to put on it and have not shot it yet. I like the trigger and have used them on some previous builds in the past. I think if i ever do another AR build i would like to try the DMR model that has adjustability in weight pull as the trigger i am running in it is a set weight pull and is non adjustable.

For woods - I don't think you willl regret any of the illuminated Zero to 3X optics. Getting one with marks for yardage or a quick-turn dial to 300 yards for the "longer" shots has proven ideal for me. Even 3X is a lot when one is running by you real close. The really nice thing is one can buy a far less costly optic than would be best for long range coyotes or smaller critters. On one of mine, I have a Nightforce 6x42? with a cheap non-magnification illuminated dot sight mounted at 45 degrees on the accessory rail. If one comes in close, I just cant the rifle a bit to the side and no problems finding as he is trotting or running by or away. Nice Rig!

Very nice build, a build like that deserves a quality optic, personally I would be looking for a 1-6X24 with a illuminated reticle such as a Swarovski Z6I 1-6X24 or a March 1-10X24, both are very affordable for the quality of optic you recieve

I would love to put 1 of those optics on it but i am not sure i really want to spend 2000.00 plus on a optic for it. I have been thinking real hard on the VX6 2-12x42 in the fire dot long range duplex. It has the features i am looking for in what i want to do. I really like the length and weight of the scope and the simplicity of the retical. Plus it has a great low in power with a wide field of view for close up shots and high enough power for something that may need to be shot at a couple hundred yards. The illuminated dot is also a plus for late evening and early morning should it be needed. I have not bought any new Leupolds in some years and trying to research feedback and quality of the VX6 scope line.

The Swarovski Z6I 1-6X24 and the March 1-8X24 retail for only $1600

Thats not a bad price. I have not looked into any of those and figured they would have been much higher in price. I will need to do some research on them and check out the retical options they have and see if they have something i like. :)

There is a really 2.5-10 Nightforce with the ihr reticle in the scope classifieds that would be good if you are wanting just a little more magnification.

I built one like yours minus the cereacote, 20" Shilen, 15" rail. It is amazing how good it feels in the hand.
