New Berger Elite Hunter bullets!

We're excited to announce (3) new bullets we've added to our successful Elite Hunter Series! The Elite Hunter Bullets provide serious reloaders and outdoor enthusiasts with the highest ballistic performance on today's market. These unequaled bullets share the same hybrid profile as our award-winning, Hybrid Target bullets which were used by 2016 U.S. F-Class Nationals competitors who swept in all classifications. This Berger-pioneered design combines the best of tangent and secant ogive features, resulting in unmatched downrange performance with less sensitivity to seating depth.

Elite Hunters are not limited to SAAMI standards. The much longer bullet nose produces ballistic coefficients (BC's) that rival all competitors' match-quality target bullets! The Elite Hunter bullets are ideal for use with extended magazine rifles or single-feed performance applications.

Berger Bullets President Eric Stecker states, "Our customers first inspired us to marry our industry-leading hybrid target design with a long-range hunting bullet. Their demands for a game-changing product that is easy to load and shoot, drops an animal in its tracks and has no ballistic equal were answered when we first introduced our Elite Hunter. Today, we've added three new hybrid Elite Hunter offerings, now the most emulated bullet design in the industry for both hunting and target applications, exemplifying its success."

New Elite Hunter Series offerings are as follows; 6.5mm 140gr, 7mm 175gr, and 30 cal 180gr. Available now through your favorite Berger Bullets retail outlet.

Corey Schwanz,

Can you tell us what the specific differences are between this bullet and the Hybrid Target bullets? Also, at the link you posted, I saw no load data for 6.5x47L. Will that be forthcoming ?

These bullets have our thinner jacket on them to help with bullet expansion once they hit an animal. The Target lineup has a thicker jacket which prevents some of the expansion from happening. No special data on the 6.5x47L right now, but we are working on trying to get more ready. We wanted to have at least some data ready for this launch but couldn't cover everything.

If you don't see the data you need on our website currently, you can drop us an email and we can try to get something worked up for your application.

Is Berger going to update the Quick Reference Sheets with all the new Elite bullets? I don't see the 6.5 140 grain in the list. The 135 grain Classic Hunter currently has the lowest Form Factor of all the 6.5 bullets, at 0.913. Is the new Elite 140 going to be lower, or will it be the same as the 140 grain Hybrid Target at 0.923?

do they perform different on game than the Hunting VLD or is the only difference in the EOL and the HVLD being that the EOL is a Hybird design ??

RonAKA,
The QRS sheets should be updated in the next couple days at most.

Mr Big,
Performance on game is the same as the VLD Hunting and CLASSIC HUNTER bullets . The only difference is the HYBRID design.

Thank you.

The 30 cal 180 gr bullet shows a better BC than the 185 Juggernaut (G7-0.284), and the same as the 185 Hybrid. Given the increase in velocity possible with the lighter bullet, any reason why someone shouldn't use one of these in F-TR? Is the jacket thinner than Berger Target bullets?

These are the thinner jacketed bullets. You'd have to see how they would hold up to the hotter barrel conditions that an F/TR situation would have. That would be the only potential concern. It certainly wouldn't be the first time our hunting bullets have been used in a target competition setting.

Berger Elite Hunter bullets filled my freezer this year. A 250gr Elite Hunter at 2900 fps from my 338-375 Ruger dumped my bull elk with one shot from 311 yards. Smashed right through the bone of the front shoulder and turned the vitals to soup.

Check the bearing surface length, it's allot longer on the hunting hybrid.

The berger hunting bullets will handle high velocities. It's when you try to use them in competition with a 'hot' load and fire 10-20 or more rounds in rapid succession where you might experience a jacket failure. That was the case with the original Berger bullet which spawned the Target bullet design.

The Hunting VLDs are the original Berger bullets with the thinner jacket. My bull elk this year marks my 3rd kill with the new Elite Hunter bullets. All three animals DRT with one shot (large mule deer buck, large mule deer doe, and bull elk). The Elite Hunters give me every bit of top notch performance that I have experienced using the Hunting VLDs. I have over 20 big game kills with the Hunting VLDs so I have an excellent reference point to judge terminal performance of this new design against the old design.
