New barrel tenon length and nose clearance issue

Just to clarify, how much of the brass is unsupported in the new barrel?

Your barrel will remain the same length, your chamber will get deeper.

Which means he has to use the same reamer to set it back. All the chamber needs is to be lengthened around .025 and then all other dimensions be machined to match. It might not be a bad idea to chase the thread about .001 to insure it and the new established shoulder runs dead true with each other.

It is a simple matter to set it up in a lathe and set it back the required amount if you know what you are doing. I set my own barrels back on a regular basis, but the same reamer is always used.

Probably a dumb idea, but how about thinning the recoil lug by the amount you need and popping the reamer in the existing chamber again? That 0.020" shouldn't be too hard to get to with the reamer in the existing chamber.

Like I said, probably a dumb idea, but it might be worth a shot. Or I might be full of beans...

BRM typically has a bolt on lug on the bottom of the action.

If thinning the lug would solve all the issues in one, it might be viable. Since the chamber still needs to be lengthened, the rest of the tenon might as well be fixed properly instead. I also have 2 other barrels for this action already with the standard .250 lug and a mod to it would throw those 2 out.

Never said I couldn't, I wanted to get information and opinion from others on the situation to be prepared when contacting the 'smith. It's the first time I've used this guy and he is on the other side of the country. If I already knew the guy and he was close, there would've been no hesitation to bring it up.

It's currently on the way back to him, we'll see what comes back.

Aaron, the BRM's don't come with a bottom lug, I know this because I asked Jim to put one on a BRM I have and he doesn't do them on the BRM, he only does them on the BRMX actions... the Xtra diameter actions.

If it's 18tpi, id set it back one thread which is. 055 off the shoulder. That way it indexes back in same spot.
