Defiance Pre-fit tenon dimensions

If you have the capability to measure, wouldn't you do that anyway? You have no guarantee that any action is exactly what a print says unless it's a print made after the action is manufactured or at least verified to be the same. I don't see a problem.

Agreed.

OP was trying to make a prefit for an action he didn't have access to, I believe.

I think the complaint most people had is Defiance came out with a couple new models and said they had tightened the tolerances enough that they were capable of accepting "pre-fit" barrels. But then they wouldn't release a print of the dimensions needed to make the barrels without the action in hand, negating the whole "pre-fit" thing.

Edit. The terminology they used was "guaranteed headspace". Which to me is the same as pre-fit capable since it's the most critical dimension.

Regardless, it just boils down to advertising and company decisions. The quality of the product is still the same.

When I can, I do...
If I've got the action, I'll cut the threads for the tenon "till it fits".
This approach assumes you have the part- and sometimes, ya don't. If I don't what else can I do but thread to a PD?

I don't think that anyone here that's done any volume at all can say they've never had brake or receiver threads that were out of tolerance.

Receiver threads, no. Although I have no way to check them other than to thread to a class 3 PD and check to see it fits. I'm sure they're out there though if the sample size is large enough.

Brake and suppressor threads? Ya, I've seen several oddballs that weren't in spec.

A quick Google search shows a lot of companies offering prefits, so seems they have it figured out. Unless they have a lot of returns.

I hear you. I've got 3 Kelbly Stolle Panda's that I bought used. They came with an assortment of barrels as well. They are supposed to have tolerances within .001", barrels should be interchangeable but they are all over the place. Kelbly's publishes a print but evidently not everyone turning the dials can cut to those specs. Cone angles wrong. I barrel had .135" of the case unsupported. There are some big names on the barrels.

The issue is they offer so many different tenon and bolt face options on their actions its hard to keep up
I think the guaranteed headspace is only on their "base" models. For example, they took the most popular SA Deviant configuration, named it the Ruckus, removed some extra features, streamlined the manufacturing and offered it as a "shelf" option at a reduced price.

I think that pretty much sums up Defiance's reasoning. I can understand the why even if I don't agree with the answer.

I'm sure anyone with experience can measure and fit accordingly. It's the newbies that would like to have measurements to work off of or at least have a starting point and we have a lot of them on these forums.
