New AR15 -- Wow They Are Dirty

I'm ok with cleaning all the different parts. No biggy. I just wanted to ask how many of you clean your bore mops ? And what do you use to clean them?
I used the copper cleaner, but seems like a waste.

Depends. A single bore mop cost about 3.00. How much does a can of acetone or other fluid cost? I buy all my bore mops in 12 packs. I get them dirty and I fill a landfill with them.

So Sorry, I got my guns mixed up.
My AR is 223 wylde . I am just shooting Black Hills Remanufactured 223 , 77 , and 75 gn ammo.
Cleaning the chamber I use the large mop. I think it is a waste to just throw them away. So I want to clean them until maybe they cant be cleaned any longer.
Thanks for the suggestion everyone. Dish soap sounds good.

I keep mine swimming in oil and when I want a good clean on more than the barrel I just use the pressure washer. Then some heat and grease on the trigger parts. The rest gets tons of oil.

I have found that if you use lots of oil the carbon does not bake on as bad. I do re-oil before putting it back in the safe.

Dawn dish soap will help , i use it on my shotguns bore mop I use to get a little oil in the barrel.. it stays black though.. In a rifle I don't use a mop only patches... Don't forget to clean the carbon from the bolt tail and inside the bolt carrier at the bottom...

Super Lube applied to BCG & internal parts followed by an application inside the upper w/ port door closed will allow 95% of the carbon to be wiped away.

Super Lube grease applied to slide & frame rails on semi auto pistols works wonders also.

409 will clean the mop, then rinse and let dry.

i disassemble my bolt carrier group and throw it in the ultrasonic when it starts to build up carbon. used to try to keep it clean like my bolt.guns. i figured out they were designed to be dirty. just keep it lubed and shoot it.

Don't really like them. went through a stage of building them. they are hard to get precision out of, they are hard on brass and they are ugly. sold all of mine but 2. they are fun to shoot.

I too use more oil than I would on a bolt gun. Not dripping but not a "light coat". I'm convinced this is why they invented the piston system.

After cleaning the bore, use a large patch with lighter fluid draped over your bore mop. Using CLP to lube the carrier group will make cleaning the upper easier.
