New 6BR shooter. Need help with Twist Decision

New to the 6BR caliber. I am going this way to have a fun gun that will be light on powder and shoot tiny groups.

I am confused on the wide twist variations in this caliber. I will mostly shoot at 100-200 with 300/600 yard matches thrown in. Occasionally I expect to stretch it out to 1k, but I have other rifles for that yardage.

What twist should I be looking for? Kreiger has straight taper in 8 twist ready to ship, but I am seeing everything from 7.5-14 twist all posting great results. Advice is appreciated!

All depends on your bullet weight you want to shoot. 105-107 class Bullets are 7.5-8 twist. The 8 twist is a br 105-107 class standard. Enjoy it. The bigger the Bullets the faster the twist. 1-7.5 being the fastest 1-14 being the slowest

Thanks, so for the occasional 1k shoots the heavies would work better, am I giving up a bunch accuracy wise @ 200-300?

I don’t believe so. But I’m not a BR shooter. I have shot some phenomenal groups with the 105-107 class bullets at 100-600 yards in a 6 br

An 8” is the most versatile. But 7.5”s shoot incredibly well too. Personally I have gone to only 7” to 7.5” on all my BRX’s and Dashers with nothing but positive effects but they’re only use is from 600-1K. But they have shot some very tiny groups at 100 too..

You'll need the 8 twist to go out to a 1000 yards for sure. How much will that twist hurt your accuracy at short range? Maybe a little. The short range benchrest competitors use 13-14" twist and there is a reason for that. I can tell you that 80 Gr Bergers will shoot small at 100/200 through an 8" twist though. Jump on in!

BTW if by "straight" taper you mean no taper, be careful with how much weight you put out front. Balance is important.

I ordered a 28" 7.5 6br from Northland Shooters Supply. I haven't screwed it on yet. Hopes it shoots as good as my buddy's. His is the same as SPJ barrel. I haven't seen a load in it that will not shoot 100-300. He cleaned a stage with it out to 1225 yards last weekend at MPA. 105 Amax.

Ive shot the 8 twist bbls since they came into use,,,they will shoot the little bullets very well ,,,,BUT not all little bullets will take the high RPM's,,,,you gotta try em,,,if they arent doing well ,,,dont waste round count trying to get them to work, they are telling you something,LISTEN TO THEM,,,most "boutique" bullets do fine and so do Sierra,,,the rest of the 60-80 bullts are iffy,,,,Roger

I was In the same exact situation just getting into shooting last year. I went with a 8 twist and that’s what I’d recommend. I recently picked up a 12 twist also. 1/8 105-108g 300-600 and 1/12 80g Bart’s 100-300

Did you try the 80g mentioned above in the 8 twist?

I ordered the straight 1.25 8-twist 4 groove Krieger that was ready to ship. This is an MPA chassis with a weight kit so, I have an extra 2 or so pounds in the rear. I can remove up to 2 pounds in the foreend. The setup is heavy but I liked that with the larger calibers. (I have two other barrels for this particular rifle). I should be able to get a good balance with the straight barrel, and with that weight it should be really fun to shoot the BR! I am really excited about this caliber.

You should be all set! Get ready to have some fun!
