Nice. Post some group pics when you get a
chance. What twist is the barrel?

That barrel is a 13.75 twist..but have a heaver 14 twist also for it..
I had some trouble with bumping the shoulders to get a good neck turning job done, set up 50 cases...so just loaded up all 50 with a dump of H322 and some 70 NBT i had laying around..I set the bullets long(very long) because of the shoulder bump i had more headspace than normal. Got all the way to the range all set up and could not chamber a round,,WHAT?? so in a rush i head back home and start mic-n- stuff and I can see no reason i cant chamber a round..other than the bullets too long and i cant belive i have enough neck tension that i can not seat the bullets with the bolt(I have done it before) But i could not had to set all the bullets back to be jamed about .010 to get the blot to close. shot all them at the same target while doing the shoot and clean thing 20 did not go off...I still dont know why at this point, still working on that. so only had 30 cases so came home and did my juju to them and loaded up 16 one 6shot group and two 5 shot groups. first load 6 shots were .325 . next 5 shot group half grain hoter was a .302.. now with 11 shots on it..with the same load my last 5, I need to know if it will shoot..It was windy the wind flags were going swirling switchy wind..I was upset.. And i havent been shooting much because my old barrel was done..I'm a little rusty..The next five was .227 but 4 of was a .107 and i dont think the wind got me. It was me i just was a little jumpy..

Yea it's not that great, But it's a bullet i never shot before,A primer i dont use and i just preloaded them up so i would know if it would shoot or not..Wow that target looks really big but its not..the center of that moth ball is about .400. It was also 46 deg F at the range..I hope to tune at the range next sunday afternoon and see what we can do..But I can tell , it will shoot.

I wish I had a 6br varmint gun that shoots that lousy,LOL Looks real promising, keep going and get it broken in.Keep us updated.I am slowly in the process of building the same thing.I have bad shoulders and heavy recoil is not good for me anymore. I love projects like this,it proves we all have similar ideas with benchrest cartridges.

Thanks, the barrel on it now which i call the little barrel is 21 3/4 ".
the big barrel is 24"

I want to also add that the pic's were at the public range out the road from my place, and them aint' woodpecker holes in the post that hold the roof up..for those of you who read the bottom of the gene pool post..they are bullet holes and just about every post holding the roof up has them..one of them is split and has kind of been repaired.

Well outdoorsman I'm going to shoot it in some BR matches and some varmint hunting etc.
It's pillar bedded, used the pro bed 2K..seems OK at this point. I like to be able to remove it from the stock to change my barrel, I like to clamp it up on the shank close to the action. I have changed other ones I've have had out at the end of the stock but i don't like that.

Thank's Guy's. It's been a rough year with my barrel done on my other rifle, now it's going to be a long winter waiting to do some matches in the spring.

Looks like you will have fun with that, be interesting to see some of the match loads you will get going. With some of the groups you got out of the factory savage barrel you should really be able to zing in those 68 grainers now.

soldierofchrist i can remember talking to you about some loads but i have never owned a savage 6BR. now i remember telling you my buddy put a brux barrel in 6BR on a savage RBLP and it shoot's in a hole. The group's i posted were from a custom BR rifle,I even posted a few pic's of that rifle. sorry..But it will be interesting to see if my duplicate barrel will shoot as my old one did. Looks like the little barrel will shoot.

Oops, yeah i remember some of the groups you had with that RL10X, trumping that would be awesome.

I really like the RL10 , if you read I loaded H322 for fire form, shoot and clean loads. It's a tradition to break in a barrel with a clean burning powder like H322 or maybe it's a superstition...But the target posted above is 30.5 Gr's RL10 with a 68 Gr custom BT jumping .010. and if it wasn't for the shot out to the left it would have been typical of the RL10 loads..But I took the little barrel off and installed the big barrel and it has not shot that well at this point and the weather is not good.31 deg F..but I'm going to shoot a few this morning along with the big game rifle needs a few rounds and this is the weather for shooting the big rifle's.
