New 25 build

I have a stock bottom metal and trigger sitting in the safe. Was thinking of having a 25 puut together I don’t have a 25 in my arsenal. Will be using it for varmints and steel for fun. The stalk is set up for a Kelby Atllis Long action. Was thinking of going 25-06 and running 115 to 133 grain bullet. . What twist would you recommend and what powder should I use.

The typical 1:10 twist will do well with bullets from 70gr through 120gr.
A 70gr bullet from a 25-06 will be screaming!!

If you want to use the 131gr Sierra through the 135gr Berger, you'll probably want a 1:7.5 twist.

Thank you for the reply
No problem!

I have (2) 25-06 myself.
Ruger 77 MKII and a Ruger #1.

Along with 250 Savage, 257 Roberts, 257 Roberts AI, 25 WSSM, and 257 WBY Mag.

All of them are 1:10 twist.

For coyotes I use my Savage Axis II with a 24" E.R. Shaw barrel in 250 Savage.
90gr Sierra BlitzKing over RL17 does just fine out to 400 yards.

I've shot the 257 Roberts out to 1,000 yards with the 115gr Berger VLD. Gotta be a low wind day though. Lol
Same load is excellent for deer!!

If you have any intentions to ever shoot the high BC 130's like Sierra's 131, 133 Berger, or Hornady 134 at the very minimum you're going to want an 8tw. I think most that are shooting the high BC 130's are going with a 7.5tw and that'll cover you for the Berger 135 and Hornady's 138 A-Tip if you ever wanted to shoot either of those.

I had a 25 RSAUM built about a year ago to shoot the 134 ELD-M and used a 8tw Bartlein barrel finished at 22in and that thing flat lays them in there crazy good. I'm using RL26 and they are leaving right at 3200.

Unless you already have some RL26 is pretty much unobtanium so I'll leave that one out but the other powders I'd look for would N565, N560, and IMR 7828ssc

Do the math..the math never lies and will give you precise barrel twist.
Its called the greenhill formula..its fun to sit around and measure bullets to practice your math skills and see the perfect barrel twist per bullet in your reloading room

Ackley improve it and try between RL22 area out to H1000 area. I built a 25 PRC which I think will have very similar H2O capacity as 25-06AI. I concentrated more on the slow end and found Ramshot Grand as my final. If straight 25-06 I would probably go to the faster end and start around the RL22 area... still pretty slow powder.
Pretty sure mine is a 7tw only because I fell into the barrel blank at a good price with no wait or else I probably would have went 7.5 or 8.

I've got a 25/06 with a Bartlen 27-3/4" barrel on it. At 10' from the muzzle it clocks in a 3974 fps with a Sierra 70 grain blitzking. And it really shoots!
