New 223

I got a new action from Billet Precision (they are the producers of the former Great Scott barrel vise--- soon to be Urbanrifleman version) and for grins I got a 223 bolt face to start.

I think I'm going to make a 223 Wylde 7 twist to start. Testing 80s, 62 eldvt and some other stuff. Some factory ammo also.

It appeared to us on the last pdog trip that the 7 twist blew up more than the 8 twist in 223. Like noticably.

I already chambered the barrel. And it's in the lathe. I'm going to just use the nut.

I have your 7 twist with issf chamber
It 100% Hammers with the 80.5 Berger
I shot a pile of PD’s with it using the 53g Vmax and it just worked great - but the 53 in that chamber did not respond to seating depth like most.it hardly cared at all - Made me think of a 7 twist with Wylde chamber to tighten it up and still get that 7 twist Zing! It’s true it seemed to add to the acrobatics—
So maybe it will really sing with the 53? No way to beat the issf / 7 with that 80.5 Berger!

My very best 600 yd with that combo
In perfect conditions

Thanks Brad!

That's exactly what we found. The 53 VMAX was awesome in the 223 ISSF 7 twist. So, I thought just do a Wylde.

I'm going to test some 80 smk. But only after testing the 62 eldvt.

The 223 ISSF with my 7 twist is by far the most impressive 223 setup I've seen. I made a total of 5 of those barrels for my family and friends to shoot just to see if there would be a less than exceptional one in the bunch. There wasn't... they all shot the same. From 90s to 53vmax shot them all well. Shot 80s like it was nothing. Even shoots cheap Hornady Frontier ammo crazy good.

I started a whole thread on it.

It was hard not to make another. But I decided I would try the short throat. I'll test the more common stuff. I purposefully left it a 7 twist just to make it over spin. Just to see.

This is Frontier 75 HP match ammo from my wife's rifle. I hadn't shot it before so it took me one group to get warmed up. The one on the right is the second.
