NEW 1,000 yard F-class National Record !

Just got home from a tough hot day of shooting a 1k shooting here in Houston. It was 90 degrees with 70 percent humidity by 9am !

The match was a 60 shot match 3x20 format and by the 2nd relay conditions were reversing right to left by 2 MOA in just munites ! Fun to say the least.

However, a great shooter and person I'm lucky to call a friend, Mr. Mark Walker, shot a 200-15X ! The sad part of it is that we were shooting in an NRA approved match so this will not count as a National Record. I was pulling on the target next to Mark's and following his score closly as I was hopeing to best him. Yeah right who am I kinding !

Prior to Mark shooting his relay I hung a fresh center on his target trying to be neighborly and damn I'm glad I did ! He is now the proud owner of a target showing a score that beat Charles Ballard's 200-13X, even if it won't be recognized by the NRA.

Damn good Shooting Mark Walker !

Doug, great post and picture! Was that at Bayou Rifles? I've heard the 1000 there is especially tricky with the tree line halfway down the left side. Nice going, Mark!

German,

The range has changed a little since you have seen it last. Since they put in the 800 & 900 yard berms and clear cut the power lines it has added a whole new dimension to shooting at ole Bayou. You get really fun funky shifts that cause unexplained vertical's. Plus when you have a North blowing wind coming in from the Gulf running straight down range then it reverses 180 degrees in your face it makes for a fun day of shooting !

Wow!! Great shooting Mark!!!! Congrads!! Though it may not stand as an offical record, you know that you beat the record and set the new mark.. Now, I believe it was you trying to blame me for the future 1/4 moa targets wasn't it...Now, it's your fault as well!!!

What where you shooting??

Way to go!!

Jim

Hey Jim,

Missed you at the match, I was looking forward to seeing you and your new rifle. Hope you can make it to Houston again soon. Thanks for the kudos! Wasn't me talking about 1/4 MOA targets, I think the 1/2 are tough enough!

I was shooting a rifle just finished by my gunsmith, Richard King, back in Jan, current barrel is chambered in .284 Win.

Hi Mark ...CONGRATULATIONSSSSSSS.....WAY TO GO..there is nothing like knowing that you have a good rifle and know how to shoot it.
What is the reamer dims...FB/Neck dia./etc....I am seriously thinking of a plane jane .284 win. for my next project ...
We are all proud of you...Roger

Mark, that's a perfect Gun of the Week feature rifle. Get with Paul for an idea of what the text should include and write it up, we'd love to learn more about it!

Mark,

I'm currently waiting on my Broughton .284 barrel, and my .284 Shehane reamer. I love the Dasher, and it can't be beat in light winds, but I feel that I give up a few points in higher winds and heavy mirage..

Is yours a straight .284? How fast are you pusing the 180?

Sorry I missed the shoot...Sames that the boss knows exactly when I have a shoot,as it never fells, he'll want to go somewhere!

I'll see you at the next one..I hope...

Thanks Roger!

German, will do. I had been thinking about working on one anyway, and this seems a good reason. I spend a fair amount of time on here, and would like to give back more than just a $$ here and there..

Jim & Roger, yep, it is a straight .284 Win., .315 no turn neck and .188 FB. Running right at 2870, slightly slower than I was originally hoping for, but it has shot well right from the beginning right there, and I have no complaints at this point.

Mark

Hi Mark...thanks for the neck/fb numbers......how much bearing surface does this put in the ctg. neck with the Berger 180 or Sierra 175....I am wanting to be shure and stay away from the donut area....thank you for the data and Congrats!!! agin...Roger

Well, shoot. Richard King built my rilfe, also. I guess I don't have any excused left. My poor shooting is all ME....

Congrads, Mark.
