Never seen this up by the crown!

Savage FTR shooting 88 ELDM with N135 powder. Been absolutely hammering with tiny groups.

Recently thing have not been grouping so well so it was scrubbed with butches bore shine, Thorough clean and pasted with Iosso

Expected a naked steel bore when the Teslong was put in but look what is up by the crown ! This pile of carbon and a few other spots in the lands near the crown. I have never seen carbon build up this far up the barrel.

If it is an occlusion that has popped off this barrel is about to get a half inch shorter...

My Savage factory barrel. Buddy has been shooting it with me and he was cleaning it. Same routine again and the crown looks like normal with that “turd” of carbon gone now.

Is the barrel threaded for a comp or suppressor ?

Looks like you didn't get all the barrel you paid for. . A piece is missing.
Maybe you can reach in there a pick and see if you can tell if a piece is missing.

Can you cut a little off the barrel and recrown it?

They have small sets of files at Lowes ,I would get some and file that out you would have a better crown !

The good thing is since it is a Savage, you can easily take the barrel off, cut about 1/2 inch off, recrown it and screw it back on.
I am curious enough to see if that’s all it needs, and you can get it off, send it to me, I will recrown it for you If you pay the shipping.

Let’s see if it goes back to shooting as before.

Jeff - In the set of pictures I'm seeing three areas that look suspicious.
Also, is the darkness in the pics just a shadow?

I have seen corrosion just inside the muzzle many times. I couldn't begin to figure out the science behind it or what combination of powder, temp etc. has to occur but a cooling barrel will draw in cooler moist outside air into the barrel.
