needs help with 22BR reamer specs

I am interested in building a 22BR sometime in the future, and want to gather some information about the chamber recommendations. I have read the 22BR page and several post here and could not find a lot of the answers I am looking for. I am planning on calling Dave but I wanted to see what input I would get from people shooting this cartridge now.

Thanks in advance

#1) What is the neck on a no-turn? I want to get a no-turn neck match reamer made, so when I get ready to build one.

#2) What free bore is recommended? .000” or ?

#3) What twist to use for shooting 50-55 grain bullets mostly, but the occasional 60gr flat base, 69 HPBT, or 75gr A-max’s?

#4) What kind of barrel life can I expect if I do not shoot the gun hot?

I have taken some information from other posts here, so you might recognize what I am pasting.

Have several 6BRs' so it was an easy 'transition'. Use my 6BR redding bushing die with a .247' bushing, loaded round .249' w/ Lapua, for a .251' chamber neck.

By the sounds of it, you dont really need the twist to shoot the heavy bullets a long way. 200 for paper punching is fine for the 1:14 twist and the 52-53gr match bullet range. But in case it gets windy, consider a 1:10 twist to shoot 69gr match bullets.

My 22BR replaced my 22/250 and what a joy it is too shoot. I'm using a 1-12 twist barrel. My standard load is H322 and 55 grain Noslers, but I can also use Berger 64 grain

A .254 is considered a no turn neck.......
I use a .070 fb for the 75 grain A-max... it needs a 9 twist..
I use a .030 fb for the 40 grain Ballistic Tip---- it has a 16 twist I ordered specially for the 40 BT's.....
A 12 twist is a happy medium.....
I have only about 850 rounds through the 16 T and do not see any damage to the rifling at all, and expect it will go over 2500 with no problems.......

Thanks for the info, it has my wheels turning! Sounds like a .254' with around .050' should work for 50-60's! I will see what Kiff says!

Steve: What about having someone that already has a reamer made up, cut your chamber for you? You going to cut more than 'one' chamber with it? Might save the cost of having a reamer made and you could use those extra $$ for bullets and powder. Just a thought. ;)

All I ever shoot through mine is 50's and accuracy loads are anywhere from mid 3600's to mid 3900's. With 0 freebore and a new unfired chamber......when touching the lands a 50gr Blitzking seats about 2/3 down the neck, the 55BK goes a little deeper. The flatbase 60VMax will seat to the beginning of the radius at the neck/shoulder junction. Again, that's with no freebore.
