Need some wisdom, Anschutz

Hey guys, I stopped over at the folks today to start moving his guns over to my place, unfortunately his days of enjoying the shooting sports are over and came across a few Annie's. One of them was clearly engraved as a 54 18 ms-r and the other was a bit harder to cipher.

I belive it is also a 54 but not sure exactly...it does have the Champions Choice engraving on it so I am guessing it was a model they offered? It also has a the left wing safety on it. Thoughts and any guess on value, I am going to hang to the other for now but may do something with this particular rifle as I am a weird lefty shooter.

The rifle in question..

It appears to be a 1710 FWT sporter that has been rebarreled, if you remove the action the stock should be marked as a McMillan.
They was built for smallbore metallic silhouette sporter class when the weight allowance was lower than it is now.

Since the other rifle is an MS it would make sense, lots of folks shoot a heavy (standard rifle) class and a separate rifle for hunter (sporter rifle) class.

I have been away from the game for a few years now but I am thinking that the rifle alone would be somewhere in the $2000 range and the scope in the $500 range.

I had one just like it except for mine having the factory barrel. Selling it was not a good move on my part it brought a lot of wood home.

With the current barrel it appears to heavy for Hunter class silhouette so it will be of limited value as a silhouette rifle - restricted to Standard class due to weight and probably a lot harder to shoot than most standard rifles. 15 or 16 hundred for the rifle and 600 for the scope...

Just my opinion...

With the weight limit for Hunter class being 8 1/2# now it may be close to the limit but I suspect that it will make it, it would be interesting to know the weight.
The smartest thing I did was give up shooting a dedicated Standard rifle and went to using my Hunter rifle for both classes, my scores in both classes went up. I built mine to weigh 8# 6 oz, I stayed a couple of ounces under to allow for variations in scales not all scales are calibrated.

Thanks for all the info guys, I appreciate it very much!! Very very interesting.

The weight with scope as is, came in at 8.3lbs on a relatively cheap digital scale. It doesn't feel to heavy but it does feel slightly unbalanced with the 24" barrel bias towards the muzzle.

He did have a cheat sheet taped to the stock with different yardage adjustments for different types of metallic targets, pigs, chickens etc so I am guessing that's what he was using this one for perhaps.

Here is the other I found in the back as well. Very interesting stuff fellas, thanks for all the input.

Drover,
They recently raised the sb hunter limit to 9#. That rifle may make it as is.
I was unaware that they raised the weight limit again. When I bought my 1710 FWT I believe that the limit at that time was 7 1/2#. There were a lot of nice wood stocked 1710's that had the barrel channels opened up as far as possible and had holes drilled in the butt stock in order to make weight. It was hard to make the 7 1/2# limit when they upped it to 8 1/2# it opened the door to some rifles that were just a tad of limits.

I had a Kimber Classic that would not pass the scales at Nationals, I ended up having to hollow out most of the butt stock to get it to pass their scales. The odd thing was that I had used the same rifle for a few years at State and Regional matches and it had passed scales at those competitions

Is the 54 MS a repeater? I know they made a repeater version but I have never encountered one. If it is a repeater that would be a bit of a rarity.
