I have a 54 action that was rebarreled by Karl Kenyon with a McMillan stainless barrel, probably 35 years ago The front action screw hole is stripped. This is very shallow hole that stops at the barrel.Do you think this barrel is threaded or pined. I looks like it has pins. I would like to take it out to re thread hole in action. Any advise??

Were the pins put back or are there just holes where the pins go. you should be able to look down the action hole and see the barrel can you see any threads?

I’ve read so many complimentary things about Mr. Kenyon’s work, but I can’t recall if he preferred to thread receivers or not.
I would see if I could drive the pins out. Driven out intact would obviously indicate a pinned (and possibly glued). receiver. One common aesthetic practice used on threaded receivers was to cut off the ends of a pin and epoxy the ends into the now useless holes for appearances sake. If that’s the case with your rifle heat can be applied to loosen the epoxy and pluck or pick the ends out of the way. Usual threaded barrel removal techniques from here.

" rebarreled by Karl Kenyon"

Didn't Karl soft solder some barrels in? Was it only carbon steel barrels?

Thanks for your help, the pin holes look like epoxy. I think the best thing from this point is to take it to a gunsmith,
I've already screwed it up enough
