Looking for recommendations for a muzzle brake for a heavy barrel 308. Last one I bought was a Holland and a Vais. Don't need to break the bank on this. Scorehigh has one for 179.00 installed plus shipping back. Any ideas or thoughts.

Check out Erik Cortina's website for his tuner/brake. I've got 3 of them and I like'em.
I shoot indoors, frequently, the booth side walls can really raise volume for a lot of brakes. Overall, I'm pretty sensitive to loud noises (outdoors too), and I'm always using plugs and muffs. I've tried the 419, Jet Blast, the Little Bastard, and a lot of the other common ones. They're all too loud for me. Horizontal first ports seem to be the most hearing friendly. Figure out your price point and go from there. I’ve run more models then I can remember m. They all reduce recoil significantly and all are loud.
Is your barrel already threaded?
IE what's extent of labor / installation needs / possible shims?
Are you ever going to shoot prone with the brake? Side ports only or maybe side and some top ports for compensation, but needs to be timed, vs Harrels type or others that are not timing specific, but will kick up more dirt / dust.

Another vote for APA's brakes. I replaced the factory 2-port tank style brake on my Ruger Magnum RPR in .338 Lapua, and it made a huge difference; the recoil is reduced to about that of my .284. It is hard on neighboring lanes, and will sweep light objects off adjacent benches, but that will be true for any effective brake.

Muzzle breaks are a personal choice... the amount of side and or rearward blast are you willing to put up with as those reduce recoil the best...the recoil tolerance pitted against the noise...so caliber it's on will influence your choice. I use mostly precision armament severe duty M4-72 it reduces recoil a lot but has a tremendous backwards blast..perfect for me, as I shoot 50BMG, so it's no big deal. On the dasher Area 419...don't need much recoil reduction there.
