Need Sierra .243 Load Info.

Friend has the Sierra manual. Can anyone help me out with the starting and max. loads for the following:

.243 Winchester
CCI 200 Primer
Laupa Brass
2.720 COAL (based on my chamber and this bullet)
Sierra 70 grain match king

Powder 1: VARGET

Powder 2: IMR 4320

Will be used in my Savage Model 10 Max 1 .243 Win.

I am thinking the Varget will be around 37-41 range.

You can use 33-41 grains of IMR4320 but the varget insnt listed in the hornady manual. Hodgdon lists 38-40.5 of varget with a 70 grain speer soft point.

Try 38.0 Varget with 70 gr. Sierra. Has worked well in a couple of .243's for me.

Varget 36.7 - 3000 fps, 37.8 - 3100 fps, 38.9 - 3200 fps, 40.0 - 3300 fps, 41.1 Max - 3400 fps

IMR4320 37.5 - 3000 fps, 38.5 - 3100 fps, 39.5 - 3200 fps, 40.5 Max - 3300 fps.

Edition V, 6th Printing

I have triple checked the numbers but are not responsible for the outcome, that's on you my friend.
Proceed Carefully and work up to Maximum loads.

Thanks everyone. I loaded up six different loads using the Varget and got good groups with 36.80 and 37 grain. As I went up the groups expanded.

Maybe try the IMR next weekend.

Mike, if you happen to have any IMR 4350, give it a try. It, quite often, gives the best groups out of a 243 win.

stuff is magic in the .243

I have had the best accuracy with IMR 4064 in 28 in Barrels. H380 is good and being a ball powder burns cooler and extends barrel life. For varmint hunting I would advise using H380 and Molly bullets. You will get twice the barrel life and good accuracy. 70 gr.Blitz King and Match King shoot equally well. Nothing wrong with 85 Game King HPBT.
