.243 Reloading Suggestinos

Hey Seeking....dont give up. My 243Win was a real pain to dial in. Rem 700 with standard 1 in 9.125. I can confirm H4350 & IMR 4350 are very hard to beat for 90-100gr bullets. I settled for 100gr Pro Hunter (.010 jump) for deer and 95 SMK (.065 jump/mag length) for long range target. A friend tried the 105 and it wouldn't stabilize them. My 223 & 308 were jokingly easy to tune compared to my 243. I think it's a good thing to remember 243Win is an "overbore", even more than a lot of magnum cartridges. I did try H4831 and some H1000 and it would never tighten. Let me know.

Loaded up some HV100 into the wee hours of the morning last night. Heading to the range today to give this powder a try.

Also, loaded up five different COAL's for the 70 MK to with Varget to see if the change in the COAL does the trick.

Taking along a chronograph for the first time...

Barrel- some ask what twist? why?? i ask how much was it? my 12 twist is awesome. never has shot a 1" group . let me know how that that hv100 shoots. i/h 4350 for the heavier ones and varget and I4064 for accuracy.

Hi Roninflag...thank you for the info on the Sierra 85 grain bullet. I have talked to the great bulletsmiths and it seems to me this is their favorite bullet for the .243 they make for hunting performance. I couldn't find any to shoot so I picked up some of the Hornady 87 grain bthp and shot two different combinations today with IMR 4350 but didn't get anything worth repeating. Just beginning to play with it.

I just cannot believe how picky my rifle is. After 250 rounds of numerous bullets and powders I finally have one combination I like using Varget and the Sierra 70 grain MK. The manual said it shoots 3000 fps but my chronograph came in at 3,300 fps. Was kinda bummed because this was to be my pelt saving coyote bullet. I am right at the starting load with my best groups sub inch so I don't think I can slow her down more unless I dip below the starting loads but always read it rapidly increases pressure so I never tried.

Not sure what this means but I had a primer actually pop out of the case after being fired with one of my 4350 loads and H100V loads today?

Nothing doing yet with the Speer 100 gr spbt using IMR 4350, Win 780, H100V, etc. Was kinda hoping this bullet would be the one for long range after the 105 AMAX bullets would not stabalize. The Speer has a great BC for those long shots.

After playing with the Hornady 87 grain HPBT some more, I may have to see what is decent in a 95 grain bullet for long range and see if I can find a shooter.
