Need Sako extractor

I have an early Sako L461, 222, with the flat claw extractor about .100 wide, and about an inch long.
I see the topic was covered a couple years back, but maybe something new has come about.
I would like to find a replacement, as have had no luck re heatreating this one.
I had heard of some Sakos being converted to an AR15 type, similar to the conversion on Rem 600, but no personal experience.
Suggestions welcome. I reckon one might be whittled out from scratch, but it would be an all day task me thinks, and then make about three cause the first two wont work.
thanks, Ron

Why not send it to carlsbad and get a new sako installed? If he cant match one up he can slap a mini m16 in there- a one stop shop back in a week

Just used up my last one but I got it from PTG, they used to offer them in a kit that contained the extractor, spring and plunger

PS, don't destroy that rifle with an AR extractor.

Thanks to all for the ideas but it’s NOT the modern type extractor, its an early gun with flat spring steel type, about an inch long. I had forgotten about Western, they have bailed me out before with some really holy grail type parts.
Ron

The Interarms/Zastava Mini Mark X and current Model 85 use that exact extractor. I got one from them just a few weeks ago. Here's a link:

If you'd like to post a pic of yours, I can do the same with the new one I have to to verify dimensions.

Good shootin'. -Al

Do you mean the Zastava bolt uses same extractor as the early Sako?
length 1.465 wide section .150, narrower tail section .125
I didn't pull it, but the dovetail section sliding into the bolt, is likely .50 thick give or take as memory serves. With luck the Zastava would be oversize to be fitted.
From past experience, parts for foreign stuff can be a challenge to obtain. Suggestions?
Muchas gracias! Ron

Here it is. Length is 1.445, width on the hook end is shown, width at the back tapers to 1.350. What appears to you as a tapered extractor back is probably the narrowed bolt surface (shown) that the back end registers on.

It's identical to a genuine Sako I have here.

For sure thanks! I presume that's the original Sako next to the bolt? Have you retrofitted the Zastava into a Sako? Just wondering, it sure looks like a viable risk to get a Zastava one and see up close and personal.
The first pic, that's Sako, or that's the Zastava?
I guess I should contact Zastava USA? Thanks, Ron

Pictured bolt and extractor are the Zastava. I may have a used Zastava I could send you to eyeball....will check. -Al

So Interarms went south long time ago, right? I never had a mini Mauser by them so never noticed their extractor.
Your Zastava extractor is real close, but as memory serves, the space between that distance behind the claw face, to that post, is larger than the same space on the SAKO.
I still think it worth the effort to get, or try to get a Zastava extractor, and see if it can be retrofitted.
Back in the 80s, Wes Ugalde and Skip Talbot, were building ISHMA pistols, using either the short L461, or Rem 600s. Later on they kind of adopted me, and I spent a lot of time in their shops.
The Rems all had that seemingly designed to fail clip extractor, and they would retrofit the later SAKO extractor, into the 600 bolts. But by the time I got there, they had quit building the ISHMA guns, and I never saw them modify one, even though I understand the basics.
I am not certain this bolt could be retrofitted, as the existing cut is way further back. As they say, "a good education is expensive", I just don't like getting it on gun parts that are darn near impossible to find, Sako for example. :)

I’m not sure if you’ve found what you need or not, but you need to contact Western Gun Parts for the extractor. I got a couple from them about a year ago. They have them listed for Browning NOT Sako. Browning used that Sako action in their rifles back in the 60’s. Good luck.

Browning used the Sako actions in some of their rifles....the only difference is that the Sako dovetail mount was eliminated and the receiver was drilled/tapped for regular bases. H&R also used the small Sako on their Ultra Wildcat bolt guns.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. Still hitting a brick wall though for an original extractor.
I have one coming from Zastava, the guy from Western, whose heart wasn't really into his job anyway, claimed their last one was on gun broker, but had no clue how it was listed, and which I searched every imaginable description, but never found.
Crossing my fingers the Zastava one can be fitted.
I had never seen the Browning version, but have seen both Colt and HR Sako actioned guns.
In fact a year or three back, I saw a Sako/Colt marked barrel, L57 sporter 308, at the price of 450.00. Near broke my arm getting my wallet out.
I rebarreled it to a 22BR, but have yet to try it in the field. Kind of overkill on ground squirrels, but 400 yard distances are common, given a day with not a great deal of wind. Which of course in NV, is about as common as an honest politician.
Shots like that, wind mirage, etc, are about half luck, considering the target the size of a pop can, but its fun to talk about.
I will advise if the Zastava one works, might be good intel for someone else.

I Thought to follow up on this project, for anyone else with the issue. Zastava was quick like a bunny, their extractor arrived in a couple days after order. Amazing in these Vid days, when every one is way behind the power curve on shipping.
It basically dropped in to the Sako slot. No filing or fitting at all. I wish that there would have been, it lacks a bit of tension.
It would not extract at all. After study, its several thousanths shorter than the Sako. Thus, it was being pushed back rather than snapping over the rim.
The little white stuff seen, is a bit of matchstick, to take up the space and test the theory about the length. Macgyver aint got squat on me. :-}
The next two attempts, one with a fired case, the other a loaded case, it pulled them.
Since its a dovetail groove, I think I can fit a short piece to fill the space behind the shorter tail. Its a dovetail, so I cant see anyway for it to fall out once the extractor is in place.
Will it work when the squirrels are coming through the wire? Only time will tell. Last spring shooting blew chunks. Several places used poison, Another plausible theory was a wet winter, followed by early warm weather, fewer survived their winter nap.
Thanks again too all with ideas and offers. Those folks make shooting great!

Another option, if you know a good tig weldor, would be to build the length of the tail up and file it to shape and length for a proper fit.
