Need new Single Stage PRess

Most of the presses out there are of the same couple designs- O frames and C frames. The O is better, in that it's got a balanced load path, but the smaller C presses do fine as well. I've not used a press that was inadequate - I've tried an old RCBS Rock Chuker, a new one, a Lee Classic Cast, and an RCBS partner. All do what they are supposed to do. The lee has the best design due to it's adjustable handle, but the fit and finish are lacking. They all work fine. The press is probably the least important piece of reloading gear. I would probably shy away from the really cheap Lee, just because the good lees are already pushing the limits on material quality, but I bet they work too.

The thing to know is that all presses float the case, so they all do the same thing.

Lee Classic Cast......The little red one.....Under $120. on Amazon delivered. It will do as good of a job as any. If you like older stuff that is no longer made try to find a Hollywood Senior. I was fortunate enough to come by a pair of them a while back and the " cool" factor of those speak to the "American Picker" in me.

Regards
Rick
I use the Lee Classic Cast because RG Robinette uses them to make his bullets. He found them to produce the best results.

One thing I hated was having to figure out the depth to screw in my dies each time. Wasted a good 10 minutes each time getting it right

Easy fix. Saves your settings for only 5 bucks.

Various brands of presses can be converted to the lock n load system. The iron press appears to be a very good choice.
I started out with a Lee and it still works well. but my attention has been drawn to the Redding T7 and Lyman 8 station turret.
I like my T-7's, they are a very nice press and built like a tank.

I recently switched to a hornady lock n load classic press. I like how easy it is to switch dies. I checked run out on my loaded rounds and im around .002 to .003. Im happy with it, but as some one else mentioned i dont like how the spent primers come out. Just a little extra cleaning once in a while.

The press isnt whats causing your runout.

Did you know that for decapping only you can rotate ram 180 ? I think I'll decap by hand or run vacuum afterwards seems like a lot trouble

Not to change the subject but since you mentioned it,there is a guy on here that goes by "German". He has primer catchers for different presses that work really well. I've got 2 of them and they work very well. No more picking spent primers up off the floor or vacuuming.. You might contact him if interested. Good guy to deal with...

Yes i believe that. It was with some shells i checked that were hornady black ammo once fired then sized without depriming first (read that can cause runout) and it was the wrong sizing die. Didnt notice till yesterday it was a 6.5×47 L die. All that and i still only had 2 to 3 thousands run out. I wasnt complaining about the runout i was pleased with it.

The press comes with a catch tray for primers but you have to have the priming arm in for it to work.

I have the German's upgrade. It works.

Who was the guy above who eliminates vacuuming? I would get my head handed to me if I didn't vacuum in the reloading room.

I ended up going with the Hornady Iron Press - was able to get it for about $180 shipped because Brownells had it on sale and had another 10% off...I'll see how this thing works.

I have 2 single stage presses currently.
RockChucker Supreme and RCBS Turret.
I hate screwing dies in........ so I bought several heads for the turret and have the dies set up so I can switch heads....... not dies.

I mainly use the RockChucker for forming cases, and difficult sizing operations such as forming 338-416 Rigby Improved cases with hydro forming dies. I also had no choice using it for 505 Gibbs/500 NE sizing due to 1” sizing dies.

I would recommend either of these. I had a Redding Big Boss, the handle length was annoying for me, so I sold it. I also had a RCBS Ammomaster, it had the same issue, had to sit too far away from the bench while operating the press for my liking.

Cheers.
