Need new powder for 1:7 twist 243

.100" freebore
I don't do cartridge overall length, but I am jumping a minimum of .025" ( up to .080").
New Lapua brass.
No primer signs of pressure
Small ejector Mark's when bolt is more difficult to lift (compared to no brass in chamber).

The worst part of shooting for me is cleaning barrels. So if they clean easier or quicker, I am up for that!

Then steer clear of Reloder 26 - if I get 150 shots out of it without needing to clean it is a miracle.
I've recently become a big fan of Ramshot Magnum - H1000 is good, but Ramshot Magnum is cleaner.

Good Luck.

Lapua brass is typically fairy heavy wall brass thus loosing some case capacity, i suspect if you ran the same load in winchester or remington brass you wont see the pressure as early, allowing you to run more h1000. In my 6SLR I RUN 47.6g of h1000 behind 115 bergers @3130 fps in a 27" 7.5 twist using winny brass. I'll add my throat is about .110, my coal with the 115's is 2.91 jumping .010. I run the non binder ai mags that will take up to 2.94 coal.

R26=speed but isnt temp consistant ran 115 pills up near 3300 if you push it.
4831 4350 =ok velocities but shorter barrel life.
N160 =clean and cool good velocities with 105's
N165 = very similar for me to h1000 , clean and cool burning as well
V100H my goto powder for 105's , cool , clean, excellent velocities but not r26 fast.

74Bronco thanks for the info. I am looking for one pound of N160 and see how it performs.
If good, I will get a jug.

PS
I have a 1974 (wheeler) and 1970 Bronco (ice cream getter).

Vihtavuori N160 has an energy content of 3650 kJ/kg
Hodgdon H1000 has an energy content of 3630 kJ/kg
Vihtavuori N165 has an energy content 3600 kJ/kg

Nice powders but they have the same energy content as H1000 so there will be little or no difference unless there is a significant difference in bulk density.
N165 is quite a bit denser than H1000, I don't know about N160.

I do string firing and need them to be stable for the entire string. I have heard that could be a problem with those powders.

They are from different sources using different technologies. Re26 is a Swiss Nitrochemie manufactured propellant with the EI deterrent impregnation technology that can produce staggering MV increases. However, some Nitrochemie EI grades, notably Alliant Re17 (Nitrochemie EI-N145) have acquired a reputation for temperature sensitivity.

Re23 is manufactured by Swedish firm Bofors and uses its 'TZ' technology to reduce temperature effects. This was first introduced a few years back with AR-Comp which AFAIK is a modified variant of the old temperature affected Re15 and which appears to have worked very well in this respect based on users' reports.

So, Re23 and 26 may behave very differently in this respect even though they form part of the same product range from Alliant. I can't comment personally as although both made in Europe, we don't have either on sale here (UK).

I ran the 110smk with 43 to 43.4 g of N165 in Lapua Brass with CCI 200 primers at a COAL of 2.890. 29" Krieger 1/8 twist barrel. Avg speed was 3080fps. Light ejector marks on the brass but bolt lift was fine.

I have tried N160 and found my charge max to be 43.5 (heavy bolt lift) with the 110 Smks. I don't know the speed yet but will be testing 43.0 N160 with different seating depths.
To tell you the truth, I can't get the 110 Smks to group well. After my next testing, if I dont see some good results, I am going to be done with them. Switch to 105 Hybrids.

I haven't been getting the best results with the 110s yet, but I sent the barrel back to Shilen to get throated so I could seat the bullets out past the doughnut in my .243AI brass. I switched from RE-26 back to RE-23. Still getting 3200 fps out of the 28" barrel with the bullets way the F in the case. We'll see if I can get even more once the barrel is back.

I’m using 44gr’s of H4831sc behind 110 SMK’s. Labdar says 3025 fps, very low es. I do believe it’s on the high end of charge weight. Safe but no more powder for me. At about 1k bullets down the tube and throat looks ok. 1/7.5 Brux. I think I cut it 28-29”. I have a Bartlein 1/7 waiting in the corner.

I did some testing with 105 Hybrid Bergers and N160 this weekend. I definitely have the speed I was lacking before I also had the accuracy with the Bergers that's wasn't there with the 110 SMKs.
I will post more on this later when I get through all the data.

I am getting around 3230 fps with 43.0 grains N160. I am going to try .3 grains on either side of 43.0 and see how it goes.
