I need a can't miss load for a 7mm. I just picked up a 7mm winchester model 70 stainless sporter. I am thinking about setting it up for a doe hunt this weekend. it is a 9.25 twist 26" so I am not gonna mess with the (1000) 175XLD's I have sittin on the shelf for my .284. I have a box of 140VLD hunting bullets I am thinking about using though. I have a few different powders around I can try, but would really like to know if anyone has exspierince with the 140 bergers so I can save some time. Looking at there chart the Reloader 22 looks really inviting but I have never used it so???? thanks for any and all info

any starting loads???
dragman,
No one can give you a load that will for sure work in your rifle, the loading manuals are full of loads that you can start with, I am still not 100% sure exactly what your shooting I assume it's a 7mm Remington Magnum, if that's the case H 4831, IMR-4831, IMR or H-4350, and RL-22 all work good in that chambering, if you have a known action that will take full house loads then start in the middle and work up if unknown start at the bottom and work up from there. I don't mean to be blunt but I don't like to give my loads out over the web, what works great in mine might blow yours up so I just don't like putting out for all to see and there are a lot of other guy's that also will hesitate putting it on the open web, if you don't own a loading manual you can download most of them for free, wish you all the best of luck.

67.0 grains of H4831 Fed 215 140gr Berger Hunting set at.040 of lands shoots great for me.

You would have been ahead of the game by PICKING a GO TO load off the shelf at the Sporting Goods store. Then doing your Load development when time permits.

Ok I am trying Reloader 19 and 22
H 4350 and 4831
and IMR 4831

I am hoping the H4350 works the best as I have a LARGE amount of it already.

How long will it take you to try all those powders?

I start with the suggested starting load for them and if they don't look promising I move on. not that they wouldn't shoot but just trying to find what the gun likes as easy as possible. so far the reloader 19 looks like it is gonna be the winner. Seemed to shoot right away and stay really consistant as I worked my way up. It shot really well and when I pushed it up to max it performed well Getting just under 1/2" groups @ 100 yards. and haven't played with the seating depth yet so it may really come alive if I can stretch them out into the lands. leaving them jump for now so that I can load the magazine.
