need help

just had built on a Savage target action, 6BR, 26 inches, put a EWG 20 base.........weaver T36.......with Burris Signature "Z" rings.....

is the 20 enough to get me to 1000 yards, or do I use a -5, & +5 Burris inserts, or 10's or 20's......

thanks

Put in your bore sighter, make sure cross hairs of the scope are centered in the adjustment ranges of elevation and windage. Use the inserts that allow you to put the center of the crosshairs at the bottom of the bore sighters grid. Depending on the make of bore sighter, mine is an old Bushnell and it is around 10 blocks south of center. This may be +10 and -10 or +20 -20 whatever it will depend on how far apart your scope mounts are on the base or rail. This should have you shooting around 24" high at 100yds depending on load and near 1,000yd for zero. That is how I do it with mine. -Ron

The distance between scope rings dictates the proper insert and is different and is not a given. That is why I did not specify a certain insert as mentioned, it is very easy to see with the mounts loose sliding them back and forth on the rail if indeed there even is a rail. With fixed bases it would limit your angle options. -Ron

There is no guarantee that +5 or -5 will be all he needs as I stated before, the supply of inserts will let you find the correct combination to shoot 1,000yds with the 20moa base.

Well let me explain why I don't assume anything with this setup. I have used these the Burris rings and inserts for 20 years on my guns and really like the theory behind them and that the tube never gets scratched. Swapping scopes on my 1kyd gun never a re-aligning issue and not having to change an insert in doing so. Then when I swapped barrels things don't line fall in line exactly as before, my bore sighter has me higher on the grid and I have to play with the inserts to get it down on the grid where I want it south of center. So I think my barrel is not perfectly straight and that is why I prescribed the answer I gave. The gun shoots fine what do you think about it?
