Need Help with scope base for a Savage

I recently bought a Savage model 12 Long Range Precision in 6.5 Creedmore. I have always used the Weaver rail type mount with 20MOA built in elevation on my other 2 Savage rifles. Can't seem to find the right one for this model. I even looked on there website. The other mounts seem to have a lip on the bottom, This receiver seems more rounded, anyone that has this model, sure would like your input as to what you have used. Thanks

Put a Ken Ferrell on it. And don,t look back.. Tommy Mc..

I use the weaver 20moa and think it's plenty good.
Even tho it's made of 6061 and not 7075.

I think midway has them cor $35.

The ones I have have a lip that locks it in on the receiver to to help with recoil. A great feature for sure.

When I was putting together a 1000 yarder tactical the first thing I did was pick the scope so I knew how many MOA of adjust I had work with. I went with a EGW std or zero base and Burris XTR Signature rings which will provide up to 40 MOA of offset just by using a combination of inserts. Ring spacing is critical if you want the elevation knob to track correctly. If you dial using a ballistic program it all comes into play.

I am going from memory here but.....that "lip" is a recoil lip that will NOT fit your model 12. And as stated above EGW makes the correct mount.
Give them (EGW) a call to clarify the correct mount. Some sites will list the one with the "lip" as being correct, but they are not.

I've got a benchsource base, built in 20moa, very pleased with it.

This is just a curiosity question and not meant to start an argument. I'm curious about the popularity of the 20 moa bases. Just using a 80 moa scope for example half of which would be 40. If you use a 20moa base and std rings aren't you leaving a lot of usable moa on the table. Most of my friends use an adjustable base along with rings that will get them the most before they start adjusting the base.

I'm still new at this - so correct me if I'm wrong. but the way I understand it is this:
1. using your 80 moa scope - if your zero is the middle, you would have 40 moa up and 40 moa down.
3. if you install a 20 moa base, then you have 60 to use for long range and 20 moa for distances shorter than your zero.

I bought an inexpensive base with the recoil lug for either my Target action or Model 12 (I forget which) and simply ground it off with a Dremel tool and a ball cutter.
