So my neighbor called me to see what was burrowing holes under his shed. I went and watched for a while and took a pic so you experts could help me identify what exactly it is. Keep in mind I live in northern Wisconsin. I believe this is an extremely rare sighting and may actually be a new species that has evolved due to global warming.

It can't be a marmota Monax because they aren't really smart enough to live up here. They are flatland animals that live far south of here.

I thought it might be a marmota yooper but I looked all over the place for empty beer cans and couldn't find any.

I did notice one thing it did that may help. At the end of its whistle, there was a sound that sounded much like "ya-hey". Could this be the very rare marmota findian ?

Thanks for any help.

There's a couple of those in Pennsy with names, Phil and Gus. Shooting them would be akin to the brouhaha surrounding Cecil the lion.

That is obviously a weasel in a bad marmot disguise. Probably good enough to get him within striking distance of an unsuspecting marmot though. jd

Just bustin chops my friend! He certainly is dead! And dead is good!

Nothing like a Texas heart (and out the guts) shot. I guess that works. We can call it a "trens" shot! :):D
