My problem is I am not sure hot heavy grain bullet that it will shot. The rifle is a 26 inch with a 1 in 9 twist she will be using the rifle for 600 yard f class. Any advise would be a great help.Thanks for in put

25.0 of H4895 with CCI450 primer in WIN or RP cases with Sierra 69 gr HPBT's provides 3000 fps and excellent accuracy out of my Savage rifles.

meatbal6: I have several 223's with 1-9 twists, ( my all-around favorite twist), and they all perform the best with the 69 gr. Sierra HPBT #1380, to the point I buy them in 500 count boxes, and have 3 on hand right now. I've tried slightly heavier weights, but group sizes always start to open up, how soon, depends on their over-all-length. If more bullet weight is needed for distance and wind, several 8 twists are available and are used with the 80 gr. Sierra HPBT MatchKings. You gotta try whatever bullet you're considering in your individual rifle, some 9's will take slightly heavier and others ( even by the same manufacturer) will not. Have tried other powders, but always return to the ever-reliable (for me), Varget.

For Sie69 gr: accurate 2520 25.5 gr.
w748 24.5 gr.
For Hor75gr: H4895 25 gr.
for Sie 80: H4895 23.5 gr
RL15 24.5 gr.
Varget 24-25 gr.
I shoot XTC ---200 yds. 69 sie: 300 yds. 75 Hor; 600 yds 80 Sie or Amax if your chamber can handle them. With sie80 gr H4895 load I can benchrest 1.25" groups at 300 yds. I am using a 26" krieger 1:7.7 twist.

I have a Savage LRPV .223 with 9 twist, and my best luck with heavier bullets has been 68 grain Hornady match bullets with Varget. I've heard of other people having great luck using various Hornady bullets with their Savage small bore centerfire rifles. I would certainly try the Sierra bullets, but keep the Hornadys in mind.

Strangely enough, the best groups I've gotten with this rifle using Sierra 69 grain match bullets has been with H322 powder. It doesn't make a lot of sense.

I have a older model 12 BVSS with a 1-9 twist, a friend that shoots 600yds factory class with the same gun said try 80gr sierra MOLY 24-25.8 grs Varget, at 24.5 and 25.8grs my knotted them up they are worth a try keep us posted

Otter, H322 is a damn accurate powder, just a little hot. An old shooting buddy of mine, which I regretfully say has deceased, shot H322 in benchrest for many years. He was shooting a cartridge of similar case capacity to the .223 Rem but with a 6mm bullet. He had nothing but praise for that powder. From what I have read, Savages most of the time will shoot a bit heavier bullet than they are supposed to. Good luck!

69 sierra and varget. or you might want to try the berger 70 vld and some varget. win, lapua, or nosler brass. iv'e had great results with wolf small rifle mag primers.

I have shot my .223 model 12fv in local club competition at 300 yards. The best and most accurate load that I have come up with is utilizing lapua brass, federal small rifle 205 primers, 22.5 grains of VihtaVuori N135 powder and the Berger 73-grain BTHP match bullet. This load bucks the wind a little better. I have also used in the same competition all of the same components above but with 25.4 grains of Varget powder and the Sierra 69 grain BTHP bullet. This load was not as accurate when shooting outside. When shooting the .223 caliber outside at midrange to long range you will need to learn how to read the wind.

I like this one;

26.2 grains of BL-C(2) under 75 grain A-Max seated about .015 from lands with CCI400s. Careful with this load, I found 26.5 grains to be as fast as I want to go. I was getting flattened primers and right at 3000 fps in a 1 in 9 twist Savage.

My suggestion, Hornady 75 gr non A-max and 24.5 gr of Varget, Rem 7 1/2 primer. Seat as long as you can. Sixty nines do not handle wind very well, even at 3k fps. Also the Berger 73 might work well for you. If you have another 22 cal rifle with a faster twist you can try some of the longer bullets in your daughter's rifle and if they don't work us them in that rifle. Another excellent 223 powder is Reloder 15.

for slow fire as in F class at 600yds, the Hornady 75 AMAX should stabilize with your 1:9 and is head and shoulders better than the magazine length 68/69/75/77 bullets as far as wind goes. that bullet is designed to be seated longer than magazine length and has a better BC than the mag-length bullets. having said that, the 68/69 will stabilize in 1:9 and is a good starting point to see what that barrel will do.

I shoot F class in Canada to 1000y best load I have worked for Rem 700 XCR LRT, Jewell, bedded,Nightfoce benchrest.tubbs firing system trying Varget,Rl15, H4895,Vt 540 with 69 to 75gr bullets. Don't bother trying the ball powders with heavy bullets
Best group was shot with 75gr Berger VLD, Lapua cases, cci BR
25.5gr Rl 15 in .2s at 100 and best at 300 .873" all 5 shot groups. The poorest grouping bullet I and others have tried are the Amax 75g, the 75gr Hornady HPBT Match where fairly good. and 69 gr Sierras shoot very well but not at 1000 out to 600 okay.

I'd agree with Manitou and add Viht N135 + N140. Re ball powders, Accurate 2460 and 2520 give very high velocities and often very good accuracy with 69-75s in 223. Very dirty though leaving hard to shift fouling on the case-neck. We only had Ramshot powders briefly in the UK, but limited exposure to TAC suggested good results and clean burning by ball powder standards in 223 with this bullet weight. Note though, we don't have to worry much about temperature induced pressure spikes in the UK and this can be an issue with some ball powders.
