need help with .223 loads

I just bought my 14 year girl a savage .223 to cold to new a proper break in. when we get better weather I will be do the break in with factory add then reload them. My problem is I am not sure hot heavy grain bullet that it will shot. The rifle is a 26 inch with a 1 in 9 twist she will be using the rifle for 600 yard f class. Any advise would be a great help.I hope I did not post this in the wrong place. Thanks for in put

To answer your question 69's will work fine, the 75V-Max
probably will work in your daughters rifle too.Savages can shoot very well, sounds like you got your daughter a nice rifle to start out with.Perhaps some day she will be posting here in the "Big Stuff" forum as she gets older and more involved in the shooting sports.FD is right you probably will get way more responses over at the "small stuff" forum, lots of guys over there can help with your question.

I have a Savage LRPV in 223 1 in 9 twist 69 gr Sierra Match Kings are the best that I have found in this rifle. The load that works best for me is 25.0 grains of Winchester 748 Federal 205 match Remington or Winchester brass bullets set right on the lands. You might have been better suited for long range shooting with a 1 in 7 twist so you could shoot the 80 &90 grain bullets.

I have owned a couple .223s with 9 twists. They do well with 69s but iffy with 75s. One rifle keyholed with 75s, the other wouldn`t group under an inch at 100.

So I had an 8 twist barrel made for the 75s and 80s. This barrel does better with 75s than 80s. Next barrel will be a 7 twist.

Have the same rifle. 26.0 varget at 2.330 oal (should be within 5-10 thou of the lands). I use 2.332 for mine. This is with the 69SMKs.

I can't get the Amax's smaller than .4 inch yet (above load is 10 shot in the .2s).
I just changed to the 75 Hornady BTHP (had same as amax with varget for group size before) but I got some 8208 xbr and run those at 23.8g to the lands (don't have OAL right in front of me but 2.330 would be close for that also).

70VLDs work well also varget and xbr and rl15 all solid (varget prob the best but haven't test xbr with it yet)
