Need help...new scope and rings...comments welcome

I have an old Winchester 190. My first 22lr. Now it's time to pass it on to my grandson. But I wanted to upgrade from the cheap scope I had on it for years. I purchased a new scope, it came with rings/mounts that didn't fit the gun so I went and purchased some rings/mounts that did.

I mounted the scope/rings on the gun, took it to a friend's farm just to fire a few rounds at 25 yards to see where it was hitting and make some adjustments to get it close to POA. The first few shots hit about 15 inches low. I kept adjusting the elevation to raise it up. But I 'bottomed out' the elevation adjustment and it still shoots about 2 inches low at 25 yards.

What can I do to raise this up...or fix this? The only thing that comes to mine is to find something that I can place inbetween the rear bottom ring and scope...to raise it up slightly. (sheets of paper, a piece of plastic...etc.) Once you clamp back down with the rings, I would think it would hold in place. It's a 22lr, not a 30-06 and will work it's way loose from recoil.

Any comments?

I would switch to burris signature(with plastic inserts) and buy a set of 10moa inserts with them and all you have to do is put in one set of the 10 moa in the back and 0moa inserts in the front and problem solved. Big supply(I think thats the name has them.I meant to say burris signature rings.

big supply shop has fairly good prices on these highly sought after rings.

switch the mounts front to back and see if it hits high. if so you know your mounts are different heights. either way, 15 inches low at 25 yards is way off. you'll probably need to replace something. check your elevation knob on the previous scope. if its also maxed out in the same direction its more likely the gun and you will need something like the Burris rings zee rings.

Agreed. First swap the rings around to see if that helps.

I've also shimmed scopes with folded tinfoil about 2-3 times the thickness of a piece of paper under the scope body in the rear ring to help elevation. Just got to be careful not to tighten past 15 lbs on ring screws so you don't damage the scope body. Tighten front ring first, then the rear.
