Need help in selecting a long range rangefinder

I've had the Leica 800, Leica1200, Bushnell ARC, and now use the Sig Kilo 2000. The Kilo gives the best readings in bright sunlight, ranges further and is smaller than the others.

I ranged a cow yesterday at 1,230.6 yards in the evening on a hil towards the sun with my Sig Kilo 2000. I'm happy with it.

Ranged with the Kilo 2000 this morning with the sun behind me, although it was also clowdy. Had a repeatable measure of 1,391.2 yards on a cow on a hillside. Was bracing on a car door.

I personally like the looks of the leica 1600b. It has "arc" to 1200 yds I think(don't quote me) and pretty good accuracy numbers. It's not too expensive either. I've looked through some leica Scopes where the glass was really nice, I can't see their r.f.'s being bad.

It won't range like a SIG or Vectronics. When you want to reach out there you need a good Rangefinder. Matt

I would like to range as far as a 1000 yards for deer, does not mean that I will shoot deer at that range, but shooting yotes will be a kick with the perfect rangefinder. I see that the Bushnell ARC binos can range deer up to 500 yards only? Is that correct? If so, 500 yards seems not as far as I want. Is there a better binos?

As mentioned, it really depends on if you want a LRF with ballistic software or just a rangefinder. If just a rangefinder, I don't think you'll find better than the Kilo 2000. I bought that one and sold my Nikon Prostaff 7. I've used the Kilo to range cattle, yes larger than whitetails, but calves are about the size if a mule deer, consistently at just over 1,400 yards. For the price/quality ratio, I don't think you'll find a better one on the market right now, but also as mentioned, we don't know exactly what will be introduced at the SHOT show.

The Leica 1600 has amazing 7X glass, the best I've ever seen in a RF, and the RF capability is really good. I easily range OVER 1600 yards regularly with mine. I've even hit 2K with it. The one downside, as I mentioned before, is that it is rendered completely useless in fog, snow, or rain. The Kilo's have modes that will allow the laser to ignore bad weather, of course range will be reduced, but at least it will work somewhat.

I have owned / used the following.

Bushnell Yardage Pro1000. Bought this one 20 years ago and it is still working today. Does not do well in bright sunlight or close to the ground where beam divergence comes into play.

Leica 900. Very good unit for big game out to 700ish yards.

Vectronix Terrapin. They do not get better than this other than the higher priced Vectronix models. Never found a situation where it did not range.

G7 BR2 Gen 2. Bought this model for the angle compensation feature. Forgot to put angle cosine indicator on rifle before hunt and yardage given to me on angled shot from a Leica RFB was a line of sight reading and caused the first shot to be high on an angled shot but it was a hit nonetheless. Does not compare to Terrapin in over 1000 yards performance but is perfect for most hunting applications. Gen 2 model adds smaller beam divergence and G7 option in ballistic calculator and a few other options I think. I do not use ballistic calculator preferring to use Kestrel Horus.

Bryan Litz's latest book MAILRS V2 gives a real good evaluation of all of the top rangefinders and is worth the read.

Occasionally you will find a used Swarovski 8-30 on one of the forums for under $500 they will range a long way. It's a very good rangefinder for the money at that price IMO
