need help guys.

This all sounds like typical 6.5 frustration! ...send a long bearing surface bullet in a tight twist barrel as fast as possible then expect it to shoot with accuracy and not to be finicky! For whatever reason just seems for a heavy bullet for its cal of which seems to need a 9 or tighter twist wants to shoot around 3000 fps or less.
Pushing that compromise ads frustration and head ache. Age and wisdom seems to set in at one point or another and money spent on barrels, chamber jobs, gun powder, primers and bullets could be spent on a quality rang finder, time learning the rifle and a matter of just turning the elevation nob a extra click or 2.
Of course there's the exception to the norm and someone has a overbore cartridge that shoots some 3800 fps and shoots in the 0's everyday.

With a Savage rifle you don't have to change the whole bolt all you need to do is get you the size bolt head you need. Midway has what you want. The bolt heads is held on with a pin and come off the bolt sleeve. Savage bolt heads are want is called a floating bolt head and it part of what makes them so accurate. The bolt head lines up with the chamber square and does the same thing as having a Rem action trued.

i think I'm going with a straight 6.5-06 from my 243. Now I'm confused about what twist to go with. I'm wanting to shoot 95's the majority. I understand that they'll shoot a little quicker out of a slower twist????wonder how tough the v-maxes are with rotation? I'm not sure it's necessary for me to ever shoot 140's but itd still be nice to have that option. muzzle break or no muzzle break? Would it really kick that much less? can i run 30-06 brass through a 6.5-06 and have brass?

decided to go with a 6.5x47 lapua. one of you guys was right. accuracy and practice trumps everything.

I think you made a good choice. I removed my posts because it looked like this thread was all about speed and nothing else. I have big boomers and have taken much with them but at my age, they are just not that fun to shoot anymore. Again good choice and I don't think you will be disappointed.

I've been pondering this for a month now and it looks like to me it's one of the top 5 most accurate cartridges there is??? I think if I get everything dialed in and practice enough what makes the difference if I gotta dial up 14 min or 20 min long as I hit what I'm shooting at??? I think I'm getting a muzzle break although I know it wont kick much to begin with I want it to just be damn easy because not much in life is. ;D Is the barrel life good? I'm sure it is? Got an e-mail sent out. maybe I'll get to order it tomorrow or tues. :)
