James! My gosh! MINERAL OIL!! Not cooking oil! If you want to eat off it! Tung oil would be better.

Boiled linseed oil. Are you planning on reloading sitting down, on a stool, or standing?

You also could confer with the sales people at Lowes or HD for advice.

Im going butcher block... thats gotta hold up... i think it will work... then do some kind of oil and seal it... i got ideas going now... i think ita turn out good... or good enough... either way its upgraded from what ive got! Cant wait to show pics when its done!

I was yanking James chain. A bunch of coats of eurethane are the best "resistive"finish to grease and oils. Might want to think about white cabinets. Wood cabinets and a wood counter may be a bit strong. I built houses and additions for 30+ years and have seen a lot of combinations. Too much wood can be a bad thing, visually. Sonofagun brings up a good point. You can get cabinets in 36 in. "Kitchen height" and 30 in. "Desk height" I work on an office chair at desk height. Those casters are nice for scooting back and forth without getting up. Good luck.

im gonna do higher cabinets... i like a stool, or to stand when i work on gun stuff... probably brown cabinets with butcher block top... see what happens... i get house plans back next week or so then gotta get quotes from builders and get finance stuff together... still a little ways out from breaking ground but i need to have it all planned out before hand for sure..

Ok. You still have a ways to go. Through all the head aches and planning, it'll be nice to have a man cave to plan. Don't forget to think about outlet placement. Gotta have power in the right spots, and lots of high hats.

I put an exhaust fan to the outside in my room. The fan is a radon control fan so it's pretty quiet. Wired it with a variable speed control. Really helps when I stink the room up. We lined the room with OSB before finishing to help keep tumbler noise down. I also used the Gladiator track system and Gladiator cabinets so I can re-arrange wall storage easily. I put in enough butcher block benches to segregate rifle, pistol, shotgun and maintenance. Combination of Craftsman and Sams Club..

Lots of good ideas, but I bet a good quality cabinet will be strong enough if you put a piece of 2x6 or 2x8 under the top at the press area, like a big washer. I does not have to be full length, but it would help.

I'm a cabinet maker. Built mine out of beech scraps. Ripped 1 1/4" strips, turned on edge and glued, nailed, and clamped together. Cut them 24" long and they run front to back, so I can add to it as long as I need. Very sturdy. Oh, and it is screwed to a 3/4" subtopics.

You could also use a bottom layer of 3/4" plywood, and then lay a 3/4" layer of that white melamine plywood on top of that. Glued and screwed. Slick, bright, and durable. I did that in my shop around my table saw.
Anyone near NW La that needs something like this?
