Need help designing first 6 mmBR rifle

I currently target shoot and reload .223 and .203. I am seriously thinking of getting my first 6mmBR rifle ;D I would appreciate ideas on putting together a higher end rifle (e.g. action type, barrel, trigger, stock, etc). Also, any suggestions on gunsmiths or a companysthat will put together a "total package"? I will primarily be shooting at 100-300 yds but would like to keep the option open to maybe go as far as 600 yds. Thanks for any input!

My new 6BR uses a Stiller Viper SS RBRP Drop Port, 2 identical Bartlein 30" x 8" HV barrels, Jewell BR trigger and a Shehane ST-1000 stock. Stiller is doing the barrels and Bill Shehane the stock and pillar bedding. Not a cheap way to go but quality components.

As David said, John Pierce's actions are excellent and he does fine machine work. They did my .308 tactical rifle.

Bat, Borden, Hall, Pierce, Stiller, etc. There is no lack of good actions.
Bartlein, Shilen, Hart, Krieger, Brux, etc. Lots of fine barrel makers.
Shehane, Manners, Master Class, McMillan, Russo, etc. All fine stocks.

It is really a problem of too many good choices.

8" twist barrel for bullets up to 108 and 26-30" length.

I'm about done with a Pierce based single shot build with Krieger bbl in 6 x 47L. If I had it to do again I'd save a ton of dough and buy this one:

Looks like a good build and the seller may come down some on the price.

Lester Bruno advertises new custom rifles on Benchrest Central. The ads consist of a specific BAT or Panda action glued into a McMillian/Bruno or Kelby stock, with a Jewell trigger, trigger guard, butt plate and bases. You get to pick from several barrels, including Kreiger and Bartlein, with your choice of twist and length. Gain twist is even available. Prices range from $2600 to $3000+, depending on options. He can get you a completed rifle in less than a month, or at least he did for me. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Very accurate and the rifle is a work of art.

This is all very helpful!
Any thoughts on barrel length and twist for shooting primarily at 100-300 yds while still keeping options option for 600 yds?

Radshooter: A 8 twist 28'' 6mmbr will work fine at a 1000yds.Ray Bowman at precision rifle can build you a package deal that will just hammer. 336-214-5381 Thanks Joe Allen

radshooter,

I do barrel as they come, don't pay for extra length, tell the smith to leave it as long as he can, it will come out 27" to 28". The sky is the limit as far as your gun. If cost is not a problem, then, Bat action, Kreiger barrel, a lam stock ( shehane or west custom ). I have picked up three used guns, if saves alot of money. You can pick up a good used PPC have the bolt opened up to BR and have the barrel punched to 6BR, I have done this on 2 guns.
If money is a factor then a Savage target action is the way to go. You can buy custom barrels per chambered, and many stocks made for Savage action.

All the top action, barrels, and stocks are very good, just pick the ones you like. Look on this site for pics.

Lester is here in phoenix az. He runs Bruno shooters supply on the net and has a store where I buy most of my stuff. He does top notch work and can help with all you're questions.

Am getting closer to moving ahead with a build (likely with Lester Bruno), but the more you ask, the more info you get! Curious as to what people think about shooting 6BR at 100-200 yds...I have read 6 PPC is better but it seems like 6 BR is more versatile if you want to at some point shoot at 300-600 yards. Also, 6 PPC seems more time intensive on the reload front. If I build a 6 BR with 13.5 twist barrel would that still make competition at 100-200 possible (could get 8 twist barrel down road if want to reach out further)? Or, would building a 6PPC (I hear we can get factory brass now) eliminate competition at 300-600 yds? Thanks for your thoughts!
