Doing a 6 Dasher, need help

Have all my bullets together now and ready to start load development as soon as I get the cast off my leg and have permission from the doctor, or PT folks to resume my life. I will be working with 4 rifles actually: 1) 6 Dasher 8 twist 2) 6X47 Lapua 8 twist 3) 243AI 8 twist and 4) 6-250AI 12 twist. All the chamber reamers have short FB and I will lengthen with my Uni-Throater. Below is a chart of the body diameter length for most all of the bullets I'm planning to use. My thinking is to lengthen the FB to accommodate the Berger 105 BT Target in the three 8 twist barrels and the Nos 80gr BT in the 12 twist. I thought this chart might be useful information for somebody else so here it is.

6mm Bullet Body Diameter Length Chart

  • 75 V-Max: .410, .410, .4095, .409, .4085, .410 = .4095
  • 87 V-Max: .476, .4765, .476, .476, .4755, .476, .476 = .476
  • 80 Nos BT: .465, .4645, .465, .464, .4645 = .4645
  • 90 Nos BT: .5595, .5555 = .5575
  • 95 Nos BT: .591, .5905, .5905, .5915, .5905 = .591
  • 105 Berger BT Target: .502, .504, .502, .5035, .503 = .503
  • 103 T. Meyer BT, 13 Og: .4815, .4815, .4815, .4815, .481 = .4815
  • 103 Hornady ELD-X: .553, .553, .553, .5505, .553 = .553
  • Berger 105 VLD Hunting - .467, .469, .468, .469, .468 = .468
  • Bart’s 105 Hammer - .448, .4475, .447, .4465, .448 = .4475
  • Vapor Trail 103 V-tac - .4585, .457, .4585, .458, .458 = .458

Look man I’m no expert but I’ve never been mad at a .104 freebore 6mm.

I do run a .050 with Avengers but other than that I’m a .104 guy 99% of the time.

Anybody know a good way to actually measure freebore?
Joe, I have been shooting the 6brx case for years. Very short neck so freebore number is very important? No, not really. Seat the pressure ring with the bullet of choice halfway down the neck, use your uni throater so the lands just make a tiny mark. PERFECT, ready for load development. While I have you.....close 20 years ago when I was a new br shooter my wife and I had an ez up at the rear of the loading shed at Thurmont, you came and set up beside us. It was the 200 300 Nationals. You and I sat and chatted, it was very humbling for a new shooter to have one on one time with Mr 30 BR. I placed second, the high point of my short IBS career. I remmber you and that day fondly.

Thanks for the kind words, Jeff, think you meant Thurmont though. Really enjoyed the many nice folks I met and/or got to know when I was traveling and shooting IBS score. Since you were a new score shooter I hope I was able to give you some good pointers. I really enjoyed seeing other shooters do well, especially the newer shooters as they developed. My attitude towards BR competition has always been pretty old school wanting everybody there to have their best day ever and willing to help other shooters who needed it. I was blessed with some of that sorta help when I stepped into the ring, so to speak, especially from the Maineiacs, what a great group.

Reading this definitely makes one appreciate Smokin Joe and his time spent in the shooting world to help new shooters. I don not compete but from time to time he and I chat in P M and he always shares knowledge that you just don't find every day. Thank you Bro for all the help you have offered down thru the years to many new shooters. Hope you continue to have success with your builds and developing your new loads.
