Need help... Bolt closes harder after new trigger install in BAT action...

I recently sold my jewell trigger and purchased a Bix n Andy trigger for my BAT MB action. I installed the new trigger and noticed that the bolt closes slightly harder now then before when I had the jewell trigger installed. The trigger works flawlessly and is excellent but I don't understand why the bolt would close harder with the new trigger. I'm not an expert by no means so I'm not sure if I need to adjust something. The bolt is being operated with no round in the chamber. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,
Joe

If the bolt closure really is harder, it's a timing issue. The sear bar on the trigger is picking up the striker too soon, before the bolt is closed all the way. BAT makes trigger hangers with different offsets to deal with this.

Is this something I should have BAT look at to determine the exact offset I need or can they send me several hangers that I can try? Should I remove the trigger from the hanger and reverse the way I installed the trigger in the hanger and then re-install it?

Thanks,
Joe

No problem. If you take a close look at your trigger hanger there may be numbers stamped at each end. IIRC, the typical BAT hangers are marked 0/30 or 10/20, which indicates the relative position (in thousandths of a inch) of the trigger pin holes and trigger hanger screws.

I think Toby Bradshaw hit the nail on the head.
I personally just take metal off the trigger sear in small increments until I have it engaging the firing pin on the downward stroke of the handle. If you notice the trigger engagement pressure at or before your downward stroke, you may have to re-time the sear with the method I described.

Changing hangers essentially does the same thing without modifying the trigger sear. The holes in the hanger will be changed to move the engagement point of the sear forward or backwards.

Either way will work. Just depends on how you want to do it.

Toby is correct, but your Mb probably does not have an adjustable trigger hanger. Your situation will not hurt anything, but it does feel like crap. I have ground the top lever of the trigger to get the timing right. Be sure you maintain minimum firing pin fall.

I rotated the trigger in the hanger, it did not have any markings. The bolt still closes hard. I also noticed the trigger goes off without touching it if I close the bolt really fast. The trigger is very light but I believe this shouldn't happen. I sent an email to bullet central who sold me the trigger to see if they can take a look at it. Not sure if they do gunsmith work.

I just read a story today about the BIX and ANDY trigger and it said the early ones wouldn't work in a Bat without getting some thing from them to change the trigger. It was in the NBRSA newsletter and I believe the month of April. Go to Bechrest Central and click on NBRSA and got to members only and click the newsletters will come up. Matt

I heard that also but I sent the trigger to bulletcentral once already to modify the trigger hanger. They stated I had the updated model.
