I am getting ready to build a new Rifle and I would like some input / opinions from those more experienced than myself.

I am looking to build a 6X47 Lapua. I am not into competitive shooting, so weight is not that big of a deal. I will be using this rifle primarily from a rest.

My component list is as follows:

Bat MB RBRP
Bat Trigger Guard
Bat 20 MOA Weaver Rail
Jewell HVR Trigger
Bartlien 30' X 1in8 X 1.250' straight taper
West Custom Stocks #8 in Rutland laminate
Nightforce NXS 8-32X56

I will primarily be using the Hornady 105 gr A-Max.
I am not sure if I want an ejector. What do y'all think?
Should I have the Rifle balanced with weight in the buttstock?

Let me hear what you think about this rifle.
What you would do differently and WHY.
Asking questions can and will save money and time.

Thanks,
Dennis Adams

I think, that while your questions are valid, you should probably ask them of your gunsmith, rather than a host of people who you don't know. Looks like you've already made some good choices in the material to be used.

Dennis, if the action has a magazine well, I would recommend an ejector. Even if it's a solid floor, but you might hunt with it, I'd still want an ejector.

Just my opinion, Tom

I ran with an ejector because the action was available. Long range competition, particularly 1000 yard, requires maximum loads in most rifles. If your not going to run them at max an ejector is good. Mac Tilton built my rifle and has a low opinion of ejectors for long range guns. I figure if I'm getting brass flow and ejector marks I need to reduce my load....period. Running without one will allow you to run increased pressures without being able to see it on your brass.

Thanks for all of the comments so far. They are all good points.

I just found out from BAT that I can only get the MB in a multi flat profile if I want the action, recoil lug and the weaver base machined as one piece.

I thought that I would have been able to get the MB in a 1.55' round contour because BAT makes other round actions like I want the MB.

I don't really want to get a faceted contour action.

I wanted all three pieces to be machined together so that NOTHING would loosen and move.

So is there anybody out there with a MB action?
Did you get the recoil lug machined into the action? I figured you would have to due to the set up.

I forgot to ask BAT if a 1.250' barrel would fit into the recess of the MB, or would the barrel need to be turned down to fit?

My suggestion would be to build it as a legal 17 pound 1000 yard light gun. You just don't know how hard this shooting bug may bite. Or, if you decide you want out, the potential customer base for resale will be larger.
Both of my guns are built on the 8 1/2' Bats with right bolt, left port, and right eject. One's a multi-flat, the other a octagon. Either one is lighter than a full round.
Next, if you want a round action, get it. Don't worry about the integral lug. Bat has a rectangle lug that bolts to the bottom, out of sight, that works just fine.
I would probably skip the Weaver base and use their 20 MOA tapered base with Kelbly rings to save weight that you can put in the barrel instead, or might need because of the stock weight.
The barrel, I would run a 1000 yd. taper, which is 1.250' for 6' tapering to .920' at whatever length you order.
Basically, I just copied my two guns that work well for my competitions, which may or may not suit your fancy.
