Need C.O.A.L settings for .243 Ackley Imp

Help
I need Stoney Point,Hornady) C.O.A.L. measurements for .243 Ackley using 105-107-115 gr bullets. I am having a Shilen barrel made and want to throat it to a dummy round and need this info. Then I'll use a neck turned .243 Win brass and seat these bullets to send to Shilen to throat my barrel. Any help will be greatly appreciated. New to this, but finding once you get bitten, it really becomes fun. Rick

IMHO you're going about this the wrong way.

Simply seat the bullet in an empty case, to whatever length fits the magazine of your rifle, or to your desired OAL, and send that to the reamer maker and/or gunsmith. If you want to use more than one bullet do the same for each and the chamber will, by necessity, be a compromise.

I don't believe there is such a thing as a "standard" measurement for base to ogive. If someone tells you that there is, it will be for his rifle only.

Thanks for the info,I understand what you mean, just have the 107 Sierra's and not the 115 DATC's. and figured if someone did they might have the info, but you're right, only for their chamber. That's why I ask questions...I get to learn more about what I want to be doing. Thanks for the Heads up.. Rick

You'll find that the seating for the 105 to 115 grain 6mm bullets is not much different, one from another.

The 105 Berger and 107 Sierra will seat almost identical. The new Berger 108 will seat a little deeper, maybe an additional .050", and the 115 DTAC another .050" deeper.

If it was me, I would cut the throat for the 107 Sierra because this is probably the bullet you will be shooting the most. The other bullets can be accomodated with that freebore/throat setup.

Maybe others have a different opinion?

Good Luck

Thanks for the fast reply. I understand what you mean, and you're right the 107 is more likely to be the primary bullet I'll use. the info on the depth of the different bullets helps a lot.I'll do that seat the 107 and allow some for the diff in the longer bullets.I just didn't want to seat the 115 too deep. Really appreciate the help.
