Hi all, I need some good advise to get started in Benchrest. What Caliber ? I was looking at 30BR, open to all suggestions. Im located Near La crosse WI so anyone near here that I could talk to also please let me know. Looking for a good used gun, BAT action, Bartlien, Krieger. ? I was advised Light Varmint so i could shoot different classes with same gun ? I have been online to Shooterscorner looking a benchrest rifles but what is good ???? to me I have no idea.
Thanks for any advise you can give me

I would try to find advice from someone in your area that is shooting matches in your area. Find and go to matches in your area and see what every one else is shooting. I'm sure they will be happy to have you.

Good luck!

You need to get in contact with Craig Nagel who runs the score matches at Holemen Gun Club which is a small town about 10 miles north of LaCrosse. They do have a website. There are a great bunch of competitors there and is a very good club. Their matches are complete for this year so you have a good amount of time to get set up for next year.

You’re on the right track. A 10 1/2 pound gun will allow you to shoot anything in short range. You can’t go wrong with a Bat or a Kelbley action! The two most popular stocks in short range are Scarbrough or Scoville. If you are want to shoot a 30 br make sure the bolt face matches up. There’s a lot of ppc bolts out there. You’ll need to think about what configuration you want. A right bolt right eject. Or right bolt, right eject, left port!
Krieger, Bartlien or Lederer are my barrel choices.

Going to a match to see for yourself is a great idea.

Below is one of my rifles with scarbrough stock. Pretty good setup to consider. You’ll see a lot of these in short range.

Hay! I'm trying to get him to shoot 600 F Class and Benchrest with me !

Thanks

We had a new guy shoot his first Benchrest Match with us with a rifle he had never shot before. He won light gun score. That is what makes my day!

This is too much fun to keep to ourselves. If each of us helped one person per year, we would double attendance.

Great job, love stories like that .

Our range had our second annual Field Day/Benchrest two weeks ago ,we doubled the number of shooters compared to last year . Had a great time and my Son and I donated our winnings back to the club ,win-win . We are already working on next years competition .
