need a new press. recommendations?

i've loaded about.... i dunno... probably more than 30,000 match rounds over about 15 seasons of high power and PRS on my trusty old co-ax ..... but i kinda dropped it on the driveway tonight and it the frame (Y shaped handle part) broke in half.

so i'm probably going to just order another one, but before i do....

is there a new hotness in the benchrest world? something that is particularly awesome for portability, reloading at the range?

I do have an arbor press already. need something that can full-length size

lol, if anyone thinks they can weld the old co-ax back together, i'll sell it cheap

You're loading enough rounds might want to look into switching over to a Dillon 550 and do your precision loading there. Scott Harris has a great article on loading precision ammo on a progressive.

I'm running all my PRS match ammo on a Dillon 550, shooting 6 Dasher. Very low runout, very consistent results, excellent accuracy. I use the Dillon thrower for practice loads and use a funnel and precision weighed charges for match ammo.

I split up brass prep and loading so it's being used as a quasi-progressive press, but it's a lot faster than a single stage.

I've been thinking about the MEC press for awhile. Folks that have it really seem to like it. It apparently weighs 23 pounds though

thanks, but looking for something more portable. maybe like this http://www.6mmbr.com/harrellscombopress.html

I had the Harrel's compact press and I think I loaded 10 rounds with it before I sold it. Very lightweight, but it has horrible leverage for FL sizing. Good for seating and that's about it. No primer seating arm either.

Although I will say I was not using custom to dies matched to my chamber so FL sizing required more work. If you have custom chamber matching dies, the Harrel's may work better due to not having to size quite as much. Might work better on really small cases too. Worthless for cases with any length to them.

However, I would still recommend sticking with the Co-ax for sizing. It may be less portable than the Harrel's compact due to weight, but having owned both presses, the Coax is far superior for FL sizing. I still own the Co-ax and probably always will. It's a great press.

I have been running 2 Hollywood Senior presses lately and compared to my Rockchucker, Lee Classic ( both of which i still use for other functions ) they are the Cadillac in build quality and function. You can find them on Ebay. I DO use a Harrells Combo ( fits in my range box ) for the 6PPC with custom dies and it works just fine. The Hollywood Senior is in a class all it's own to run.........;)

What ever you do,don't buy a Harrell turret press. I loaded a couple of 100 rounds with it. Now it sits in the corner gathering dust. Worst money I've ever spent on a press.

You can get another handle for your Co-Ax. For portability you might check into a RCBS Partner press. It is aluminum and pretty portable. I know a couple of guys that use two of them for SRBR at matches.

I bought that box, I can find the name, did some mods to it so I did not have to use fill weights, but I'd rather use the same press for all, not reset dies.

Shoot me a price on the old co-ax, I am a welder sounds right down my alley, I'm using a spar t that went through a fire and I rehabbed so this should be a piece of cake!

WOW!!! Those Hollywood Seniors are valuable!!!!!

Looked at them on e-bay, what is the die looking thing on the top of the frame over the ram in the one ad?

I purchased a new handle from Forster for my old Bonanza and its the longer handle and will clear a seating die with no issues. I think it was less than 50.
Easy to chage out.
I love my Hollywood senior. And my coax.

No Idea.......Neither of mine have the option to thread anything into them over the ram.....
