Hello my names charlie and iam from bozeman Montana. Iam 51 and have lived here most of my life , originally from Colorado springs. Any who, I started hunting and shooting FIVE YEARS AGO LOL! I just love it !! But...iam a 51 year old 10 year old when it comes to rifles and shooting and hunting! After deciding I was hooked I've decided I need to learn to shoot properly and iam determined now to become a marksman! I've taken 3 muley bucks and this year I got my first bull elk (only elk!) So since I've started hunting I've fired my rifle FIVE TIMES!! Not enough I wanna shoot targets now and I also want to redeem my 4 un filled antelope tags (those little bastards have my number). So...my wife (good wife) got me a christenson arms 6 5 prc as a gift. I know now after reading it's not a purists favorite and media and marketing b.s. but she bought it for me and I will not hurt her feelings by bad mouthing it. Now I may find it's what the nay sayers for warned but that's going to be hard seeing as I know no better and iam new to firearms. Ok I want this rifle for targets out to 500? And I want a ethical shoot on antelope out to 400? I know you guys are laughing cause 400 is probably close but to me it's far off. I've killed all of my animals within 75 yards so 500 is looooong lol! I may not take a 400 yard shot but want to practice for it. I only want to spend 600- 1k dollars on the scope. And my only gun friend warns against a objective lens over 50mm because of my size (worried cheek weld would go bad?) Ok iam long winded!! So iam good with 2nd hand and iam looking on here for used stuff too as well as lesser value brands . Think I want a 4-6x20-20+x50 but I suppose a higher max cant hurt? Since I may take a short shot dont want a high starting power unless you guys think starting at 10s cool in the mountains. My elk in the scope at 40 yards just looked brown!! Sorry I type so much. Would love a n.f but the cheap ones are 56mm ? Looked at zeiss v4 and leupold vx3i lrp ? And I've read about sightron stac and s111? If used I guess it's about price? I dunno what do you guys think fits the situation best. I wanna be honest and I have other hobbies that I spend on too lol thanks for listening charlie

Wait until after shot show I got my night force nsx as a demo from shot show it was repackaged you would never know it was anything but a brand new scope when I got it I Found it at euro optics and saved $400

I hope you have a pair of binoculars you absolutely love. If you don't, spend most of your money on a pair of binos and NOT a rifle scope.
You hunt and FIND your quarry with binos.........You only SHOOT them with a rifle scope. You will (and should) be spending 98% of your hunting/viewing time looking through your binoculars so that's where your big money should be spent. You don't (and shouldn't be) using a scope to FIND your quarry. Your eyes will be toast if your spending most or all of your time looking through a rifle scope to find animals.......even if it's on a rest.
These days you can get spectacular (8x42 or 10x50) binos for less than a thousand and a perfectly adequate (3x9 , 4x12 or 4x16 ) scope for $ 5-600.00.

Forget the 56mm scope objective. Just because it's large doesn't mean it will be bright or have good image quality. Most scopes producing good decent image quality having a 56 will cost more than you want to pay. A good quality 40, 42 or 50mm will produce a much better image than a poor 56mm. Todays glass is really good compared to years ago. No need to accept all the negatives of such a large 56mm lens in the hunting field if you don't absolutely need the brightest sight picture. Besides you won't want to lug a big 56mm around in the field during a belly crawl on an antelope. Like I said previously........Spend your money on great, bright binos. You have a much better chance of finding that huge buck in the trees at first light or dusk with good binos instead of a scope.
