Need a more accurate scale - What is good?

I used the RCBS 505 for years. Just updated to a 10-10. Not any more accurate, but the beam stablizes faster!! I can't figure out why one would need anything else.

So what other scales have you tried?

Good scales to me are the one that weights water grains of the case most accurate. Till that happens nothing else matters. Why put in a single kernel of powder in a case that isn't the same from one to the other. First size the case and trim to length next check the water grain capacity
then a kernel of powder matters. Larry
Larry, I don't sort my brass at all. I have not found a repeatable method that I can prove to myself works. I tried water, powder, exc. when I would redo the same case I always got slightly different numbers. I have no issues with vertical at 1k with un-sorted brass. If your in the node .1gn wont show up on target, if your not .1gn can be 3".

1 MPH pick up or let up of unseen and un measurable wind can do more than all of that case weight thing at 1000……. jim

None, but I have never felt hamstrung using the one I had.

I use a BR 50 powder measure, and then trickle with my Omega trickler onto my FX120i. It takes me 25 minutes to charge 50 pcs. of brass down to the kernel of Varget. This is the fastest and most accurate method that I have tried.

You are mistaken the accuracy and resolution of the model 64 is is .ooo1 grams or .1 mg. , slightly over .015 grains.
Wouldn't want people running out and buying the scale based on the misinformation.

I rechecked the specs from Sartorius. From their spec sheet:
Capacity x Readability (gn) 926.030 gn x 0.002 grains

I think I was correct when I stated the gram sensitivity. (Capacity x Readability (g) 60 g x 0.0001 grams)

The grain sensitivity is .002 grains.(Three decimal points not two like many other scales)
Any scale listing the sensitivity for grams will have a different posted value for every other measure. My point was if a scale is .0001 sensitive at grams, it should be very sensitive at grain measurements. According to the manufacturer the 64-1S will measure one kernal of H4350 powder.
Further I am interested in the drift issue that exists in a strain gauge scale. My current scale drifts all over the place even with a large EF filter.

I looked at the NandD and their technology seems to handle the drift issue.

It appears many reloaders like the FX 120i. I will look at the FX in more detail.
Thanks for the input.

I hear the Promethius is nice and accurate

My Gen1 was accurate to 3/4 kernel of Varget, I could charge a case every 20-25 seconds, my Gen2 is accurate to less than 1/3 kernel of Varget, and will charge a case every 8-12 seconds.

What is the easiest way to cut a kernel of Varget into 3/4 or 1/3 of a kernel?

this the problem with a "generic" question...
YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE REPLIES ARE BASED ON.

i do not believe a std 10-10 or 505 will suffice for 1000 br competition.
excellent for hunting loads, and even short range br......

HMMM....I got a hell of a pile of wood...including THREE different IBS national 1000 yard championship trophies....including the two gun overall, that prove otherwise!!! And that is with the 505!!! In fact, I think only once since I started compeating in 2008 have I placed out of the top 10 in the two gun overall at the nationals.

I would reconsider your position on this matter.

Just sayin....

how many times did you NOT make the top 3..because you are loading on a beam scale ?
i think you should reconsider your position...
just saying...

(see there are two sides to each discussion..how much better could you have been if your loads were just xx better ??)

You are talking in the hypothetical world.

I am in the real world.

The world is FULL of woulda/coulda/shouldas....it don't mean squat.

And...the only way I could possably "try" another scale is to BUY ANOTHER SCALE. A rather spendy endevour.

If only I woulda baught that damm Walmart stock back in 1972.......

Yes I do shoot long range bench rest.
Yes I now have a 0.015gr accurate mag. force balance.
Yes, I now use Wilson in line seating die.
Yes I measure each cartridge for seating force.
Yes, I do careful neck sizing.
Yes I have a tuner on my guns.

All the above has made my guns shoot better and I get more club ribbons,

BUT!!!

I HAVE REMOVED ALL MY EXCUSES!!

Isn't that the truth!!! First year in 1000 BR....one gun, crappy bench equipment, evedently sub-standard loading equipment, ect, ect.....and kicked ass. Then I spent a huge amount of $$$ to vastly improve all of the above (except the scale ;) ) and struggle for every piece of wood!!!

There are very, very few things on my wish list any more..................except some viable excuses!! ;D

Well fellow shooters the research is done and the results have been tabulated - I bought the AND FX 120i. Now you all should realize that when ever I make a purchase, what ever I buy will be replaced by a new model within 60 days.

Thank you for the lively banter.

You made the correct decision and if you want to sell it after 60 days just PM me. Also combine it with a Omega Powder Trickler to be really amazed with the results.
